Contrary to public rumor, Originally having an estimated net worth of over $33 million according to Forbes magazine. Hammer ultimately became $13 million in debt, force to file for bankrupcy, mansion sold by "short-sale".

M.C. Hammer was arrested on February 21, 2013 in Dublin, California for allegedly obstructing an officer in the performance of their duties and resisting an officer.
