State Department will not roll over for Trump

I'm working in an undisclosed office with State, and can assure you we will not bend over and let Trump or any other populists affiliated with him ruin the work many of us have been doing for 20+ years. I will admit that while Secretary Tillerson isn't all that bad, and many of us believe he wants what's best for the Department, and the country, his boss does not, and wants to gut the department and water down relations with the rest of the world.
Many projects, which have been ordered by the Administration will take longer to complete than were originally projected, 1.because there are too many positions of importance that have gone unfilled, and 2.because people within State are dragging their feet to ensure minimal damage. It will take many, many years for the US embassy in Israel to move to Jerusalem, and Trump will most likely not be around for it. It will stay in Tel Aviv. Pretty much everyone who works at the Truman building despises the Administration, and will fight back any way we can.

From inception to completion, i think it took about 20 years for us to put in the new embassy in Morocco. The security in Jerusalem will be much more complicated. Trump will be dead & buried by the time we open one there (if it ever actually happens).

A ribbon cutting ceremony doesn’t mean the embassy is open. They still have to move personnel, files and equipment from Tel Aviv.

Maybe in the early 2000’s it was, not the case anymore. Federal hiring was fucked even before Trump. It’s work getting a position even under gs-7 positions.
