Alleged Fort Hood Shooter Tied to Mosque of 9/11 Hijackers

Sunday, November 08, 2009
Associated Press

NEW YORK — The family of the alleged Fort Hood shooter held his mother's funeral at the same Virginia mosque that two Sept. 11 hijackers attended in 2001, at a time when a radical imam preached there.

Whether the Fort Hood shooter associated with the hijackers is something the FBI will probably look into, according to a law enforcement official who spoke on condition of anonymity because the investigation is ongoing.

The family of Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan, the Army psychiatrist who killed 13 and wounded 29 at the Texas military base, held his mother's funeral at the Dar al Hijrah Islamic Center in Falls Church, Va., on May 31, 2001, according to her obituary in the Roanoke Times newspaper.

In 2001, Anwar Aulaqi was an imam, or spiritual leader, at the Washington-area mosque. Aulaqi told the FBI in 2001 that, before he moved to Virginia in early 2001, he met with 9/11 hijacker Nawaf al-Hazmi several times in San Diego. Al-Hazmi was at the time living with Khalid al-Mihdhar, another hijacker. Al-Hazmi and another hijacker, Hani Hanjour, attended the Dar al Hijrah mosque in Virginia in early April 2001.

What was that about Islamic Extremism not playing a part in this terror attack?

I think this is more a case of a columbine type shooting then a terrorist act. From what I read he was called "camel Jockey" and other names. I think he just snapped, i dont think he did this for any religious reasons. But hey I could be wrong.

hm.. by that logic, all of the people that attended the churches of those catholic priests that raped all those children should be labeled potential sex offenders. I'm down with that. How can we start that movement?

And I guarantee that, if a pissed-off conservative redneck went into that mosque and opened fire, new legislation would be put in place to protect the mosques.

It's Official Now (For those of you still in denial):

Officials: U.S. Aware of Hasan Efforts to Contact al Qaeda
Army Major in Fort Hood Massacre Used 'Electronic Means' to Connect with Terrorists

By RICHARD ESPOSITO, MATTHEW COLE and BRIAN ROSS
Nov. 9, 2009

U.S. intelligence agencies were aware months ago that Army Major Nidal Hasan was attempting to make contact with people associated with al Qaeda, two American officials briefed on classified material in the case told ABC News.

It is not known whether the intelligence agencies informed the Army that one of its officers was seeking to connect with suspected al Qaeda figures, the officials said.

One senior lawmaker said the CIA had, so far, refused to brief the intelligence committees on what, if any, knowledge they had about Hasan's efforts.

CIA director Leon Panetta and the Director of National Intelligence, Dennis Blair, have been asked by Congress "to preserve" all documents and intelligence files that relate to Hasan, according to the lawmaker.

On Sunday, Senator Joseph Lieberman (D-CT) called for an investigation into whether the Army missed signs as to whether Hasan was an Islamic extremist.

"If Hasan was showing signs, saying to people that he had become an Islamist extremist, the U.S. Army has to have a zero tolerance," Lieberman told Fox News Sunday.

Investigators want to know if Hasan maintained contact with a radical mosque leader from Virginia, Anwar al Awlaki, who now lives in Yemen and runs a web site that promotes jihad around the world against the U.S.

In a blog posting early Monday titled "Nidal Hassan Did the Right Thing," Awlaki calls Hassan a "hero" and a "man of conscience who could not bear living the contradiction of being a Muslim and serving in an army that is fighting against his own people."

So you're saying we should lay down legislation to protect army bases in light of this attack? Good idea. How do we start that movement?

Given the timing, it is very possible he was in the mosque at the same time the 9/11 folks were. Now, as to what level of exposure he would have had to the folks involved in the plot, that is another question entirely.

The fact that he was attempting to get in touch with Al Qaeda doesn't help his cause.

It doesn't, but it doesn't really prove anything other than that radical islam should be condemned. I think this connection will prove to be a disaster for some of the military officers who didn't flag the warning signs.

I wonder if the mosque has been searched or if it's "off limits" to that sort of thing. It would be interesting to see what's on the computers there (if they have any). Who knows, there may be weapons there like there are in so many other mosques.

Yeah, I was willing to remain fair and not jump to conclusions about the whole "Muslim thing," but come on now...

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/us_fort_hood_shooting

The personal Web site for a radical American imam living in Yemen who had contact with two 9/11 hijackers praised Hasan as a hero.

The posting Monday on the Web site for Anwar al Awlaki, who was a spiritual leader at two mosques where three 9/11 hijackers worshipped, said American Muslims who condemned the Fort Hood attack are hypocrites who have committed treason against their religion.

Awlaki said the only way a Muslim can justify serving in the U.S. military is if he intends to "follow in the footsteps of men like Nidal."

"Nidal Hassan (sic) is a hero," Awlaki said. "He is a man of conscience who could not bear living the contradiction of being a Muslim and serving in an army that is fighting against his own people."

Two U.S. intelligence officials told The Associated Press the Web site was Awlaki's. They spoke on condition of anonymity to discuss intelligence collection. Awlaki did not immediately respond to an attempt to contact him through the Web site.

Hasan's family attended the Dar al Hijrah Islamic Center in Falls Church, Va., where Awlaki was preaching in 2001. Hasan's mother's funeral was held at the mosque on May 31, 2001, according to her obituary in the Roanoke Times newspaper, around the same time two 9/11 hijackers worshipped at the mosque and while Awlaki was preaching.

I never claimed this demented fuck wasn't using Islam as an excuse. In fact, I wrote that it was entirely possible.

My position is and will be that just because you have fringe nutcases willing to do this in a misguided attempt to please Allah doesn't mean 1 billion+ Muslims are murdering fanatics.

Then where is the outpouring of American Muslim anger over what Hasan did? Why aren't Muslim leaders in America condemning what Awlaki said, and making sure it's public? Where are the pictures of imams visiting the wounded soldiers?

Islam is rooted in the Middle East, a region who doesn't care for us very much. When the highest ranking Muslims over there condemn the United States, it makes the more devout and fanatical Muslims more prone to violence. If the Muslim leaders in the Middle East ever came out and said, "You know what? America is pretty cool. Let's not surprise bomb them anymore," then the fanatical ones in the religion would suddenly find themselves in the minority.

I know that sounds pretty bullshit, but consider this: If the Pope said tomorrow that Obama was the Anti-Christ, and him being elected president was the start of Armageddon, how many people do you think would believe it and try to kill him?

No one is claiming that the other 1 billion + muslims are murdering fanatics, but they don't have to be. Their job is to populate western civilizations and take the battle to the voting booth. The "fanatics" do the dirty work on the front lines, but the moderate muslims role is just as important. They need both parts to succeed.

Just because a few of the ones you know seem nice and normal, they aren't. They can't be if they're real muslims. Islam is on a mission from god (like the blues bros), except more insidious and sickening.

Muslims are denouncing Hasan. Maybe people should choose to listen.

As for Imams visiting the wounded at Ft. Hood...seriously? Do you seriously think for a tension standpoint that that would be a good idea right now?

Muslims do come out AFTER an incident like this, but only if pressure is applied to do so. It's always the same rhetoric each time too.

Indeed. And how can we survive unless.... unless a strong man should emerge to lead
us out of the morass of vapid weakness that so rapidly engulfs us.

But where shall we find such a man?

Perhaps he is sitting quietly in the corner of a pub somewhere, biding his time,
just waiting for the right moment to arise and summon up a new morning in America.................

He started out with one of those old-school kaiser-style mustaches, and was
