HOWEVER. In USA there were troubles with reporters who lied. The Courts made a ruling that if brought to Court to reveal sources (for purposes of verifying a printing questioned as having fake sources and damaging another party intently lying), USA news agencies then must reveal sources.

"only on condition of anonymity" is the calling card for "i'm lying to you though"

fake stories (depending on the story) can cause allot of trouble

if i'm not incorrect some USA reporters have been imprisoned - not simply for making a fake story but for "public mischief" - meaning tampering with "all of america" for no reason but personal profit of getting a story published
