Survivors of Syria chemical attack hail Trump for hitting back

April 8, 2017 Updated: April 8, 2017 12:24 AM

Khan Sheikhoun // Residents of the Syrian town still mourning their dead from a chemical attack welcomed the US strikes on a Syrian government airbase on Friday as a way to pressure Damascus.

"God bless Trump," said Abu Ali, hours after the US launched a barrage of cruise missiles at the Shayrat base in Homs province. "God willing, these strikes will be a clear warning to Bashar Al Assad, to tell him: Bashar, enough killing and injustice against these people."

The attack ordered by president Donald Trump followed a chemical weapons attack in Khan Sheikhoun on Tuesday that killed at least 86 people, among them 30 children, and left hundreds suffering symptoms including convulsions, vomiting or foaming at the mouth.

The area hit in the attack remained deserted on Friday, after survivors moved to other parts of the rebel-held town in the north-western province of Idlib.

"We consider these strikes not only as a reaction, but a way to avenge the blood of the martyrs who fell here in Khan Sheikhoun," said Haj Kassar, a merchant in his fifties.

"They’re above us, threatening us again," he said, as warplanes circled overhead on Friday, carrying out at least one strike outside the town.

"It doesn’t deliver even a small part of the justice the martyrs deserve," added Abu Mohib, 37, an army officer who defected. "But it does lift the morale of the families of the dead."

Syria’s conflict began in March 2011 with anti-government protests, but has since spiralled into a bitter and complex civil war that has drawn in international players and militant extremist groups.

Since last year, rebel groups have suffered a series of defeats against pro-government forces backed by Russian air strikes and military support, and many in rebel-held territory expressed hope that US strikes could reverse the situation.

"We hope that this will change the balance of power and deal the decisive blow to the Assad regime," said Ali Al Khaled, a resident of the area hit in the chemical attack.

"We are grateful to the American air force and for the American response to the massacre in Khan Sheikhoun." .

All the other world leaders loved Obama. That's because he was their bitch.

Now they fear Trump. So they nervously laugh when he's not around and roll their eyes behind his back. But when he's sitting in front of them, it's 'yes sir, how may I do your bidding sir". Trump is one of the top 5 presidents this country has ever had. That's not opinion son, that's truth getting rammed down your cock-gaggling throat.

That is all...

That's false. It has a mix of public and private insurance.

Beyond that Australia has a relatively tiny population of under 24 million with strict immigration restrictions and little to no support provided to immigrants (actually mostly the opposite - you have to demonstrate that you can support yourself and contribute before even being considered) and a minority population composed primarily of Asians.

Which is exactly what we would have here, I won't call you a fucking idiot because I'm being nice. We would have a single payer system supplemented by private insurance.

So now you're modifying your bullshit. lol

No, it's not "single-payer" and not what we'd have here.

Do you have any clue what it would cost to put $100s of millions of people into Medicare? We can't even afford it as it is. The ONLY reason that insurance works here is that private companies cover ~70% of the population. And they're all largely happy with their insurance and don't want to put on some fucking "Obamacare"-type plan. At best you *might* be able to put all of the individual market into some Medicare-like plan and the dregs into Medicaid, but you'd have to raise an additional +$500 billion in taxes every year at minimum to do it. That's in addition to what it costs now.

People still pay for shitty care. It would bring down costs. We pay more per capita than many countries after us combined.

Obamacare is falling on its own. The insurance bought into this scam under the promises from the demotards that they'll get subsidized by the feds once it started to lose money. They didn't count on the GOP taking control of the House 1 year later and refusing to pump more money into it. It was supposed to be self-funding with the taxes that it brought in. Instead, none of the states played the game and the youngins just paid the $500 fine and got 95% subsidized health care from the gubmint.

Like most welfare schemes, they always cost billions more but they get entrenched before they fail so they can't be taken away. In this case, it failed to fast because the reps took control of the funding and refused to throw more money into it than the original bill called for.

A major fail.

It would not bring down costs. Obamacare has already proven that there is no "economy of scale." In fact the costs go up with more people participating and more people insured. Emergency room use also goes up. A large chuck of people remain uninsured regardless with a relatively high utilization of services by that group (look how much of the emergency Medicaid money goes to illegals having kids - it's like +80%). The per capital cost has little to do with the manner in which insurance is provided and primarily reflects other cost factors.

Just to give you a sense of the magnitude of the money involved, for whatever smaller group within Australia's already very small population of 24 million is covered under its Medicare program, they now pay about $170 billion/year. Once again, that's only for < 24 million people. And its already beginning to face the same problems with increasing costs eating an ever larger part of its GDP (+10% now just for its Medicare program alone) as are the Brits, Europeans, etc. Now extrapolate out for a country of 325 million. lol

Last year 90% of obamacare recipients received a subsidy. 83% received the maximum subsidy available. It's just another program to take money from the middle class and give it to the poor. Indefensible. This is why Trump won. The middle class rose up and said enough of this shit.

More lies. The Republican bill gives tax cuts to the wealthy almost exclusively in the hundreds of billions. It also knocks off 24 million people off their health care. Most of them are going to be rural residents and primarily Trumps voters themselves.

Premiums will begin to spike again in an unsustainable privatized system that has always been the case.

That's the thing with you. You're arguing for certain failure and the death of many of your own voters.

Everything I posted about Obamacare was a fact. Why you veer into the GOP tax plan is both questionable and specious, having nothing to do with health care.

The democrats take from the middle class. It's what they do. They have to because that is where 70% of the income in this country is earned. And democrats are the ones who create massive government programs that require trillions to fund.

I'm not putting any moral judgements on it but this is the way of things in ours country and has been for 100 years. Why you argue about it is nothing but partisan nonsense.

I'm not referring to the GOP tax plan. I'm referring to who the tax cuts from repeal go to. You really need to inform yourself. You are outright shamelessly lying when you say its from the middle class. Please correct your inaccuracies.

That's false.

And PREMIUMS and out-of-pocket costs already have spiked every year since it passed. No, they were not slowed. The only thing that slowed was health care SPENDING on a national basis and that's primarily due to changes made to the way that Medicare payments are done, a bunch of heavily prescribed drugs coming off of patent, and the economy still being slow.

They need to kill Obama Care recipients to use that money as figures to pass tax reform. Just so they can claim to have passed legislation. They're stuck in their own rhetoric and good governance is not an option. Brutal social Darwinism is the only corner they have painted themselves into.

Let me simplify it for you. Obama Care was your only hope. Now you are sabotaging and destroying that and threatening it with repeal every day. Eventually there will be no alternative but a completely single payer system.
You want to supplement it with private insurance. Go right ahead and stick it up your ass while you're at it.

That's false.

The only way that you get to it being less is by a bunch of disingenuous twisting of the actual objective numbers. Counting subsidies. Only counting year-to-year % increases to specific cherry-picked plans. Not counting the huge initial increases moving from private plans to the exchange plans which doubled most of our premiums on the front end.

It didn't work dumbfuck. Even before Trump it wasn't working. That's mostly because it was a poorly crafted plan that was rushed out which relied on subsidizing too many people and insurance companies and hiding costs in the out-years and required too many mandatory coverage benefits. It wasn't insurance, it was a bad attempt by advocates to create a health care plan for the lower end on the backs of the rest of the participants and to have the young subsidize the old.

Do you know how much we spend for health care per capita vs the rest of the world? Why are we the only country in the world with a shitty private insurance funded system?

Texas has the worst maternal mortality rate in the entire developed world. You're a pile of loser shit that can't stop being losers.

Thanks. An unsourced chart to prove your point? You'll have to do better than that though.

The GOP health care plan will no longer have mandatory taxes and since the Obamacare bill had a progressive tax, then the rich had to pay more and eliminating the tax would naturally save the rich more. But there simply aren't enough rich to pay for big government programs. The top 20% pay almost 90% of federal income taxes and the top 3% pay a little over 50% of federal income taxes and the top .1% pay 20%. There isn't enough money there to fund massive government programs. If the government wants to play in the health care game, then expand medicare and raise the medicare taxes to fund it.

The only federally run health care system in the US is an unmitigated disaster (the VA system). I remember arguing with that clown ColumnNo4 a few years ago on here. He ranted and raved how the VA system was golden and his dad got great care. Now we have found out it completely sucks and kills thousands of vets a year, just like NHS in Britain does.

We can't afford more massive government programs. $20 Trillion is a lot of money and we can't keep propping the $$$ up with fake wars and phony interest rates forever.

We're not. And there are many reasons why our costs are higher than most others, very few having much if anything to do with insurance.
