Salamandar resort in Middleburg

The wife and I are thinking about a 3 night stay at the Salamander. Anybody here stay there before? I have heard that their salad forks are not chilled properly. We can overlook that but I was wondering if anyone had any information about the place. The reviews on TripAdvisor all seem fake.

Go ahead and stay there if you want to give money to the ex-wife of one of the founders of BET. I heard it's a nice place, but I'm not going to give her any of my money!

I have stayed there 3 times. It's an overpriced resort with inconsistent service and respectacle food. Overall a B-.

There's a housecleaning lady from Guatemala that works there. I was checking out late and had already brought all of my stuff to my vehicle, but I decided to take a nap and I was naked and under the covers. She must not have noticed that I was in the bed. I said "hi" to her and startled her pretty good. I jokingly told her that I was naked and asked her if she wanted to join me. She understood enough of what I was saying and said that she would come back later. I told her it was okay to stay and clean and I would remain covered. I was surprised when she stayed! As she was vacuuming I was staring at her ass and she caught me. I was holding my wallet at that point, so I pulled out a $100 bill and asked her if she would vacuum naked. She took the $100 bill, but only removed her top and left her bra on. I motioned for her to come to me. I pulled out one of her tits and started licking her nipple. She jerked back, pulled her bra over her tit, put her top back on and left! That was less licks than the owl does on the tootsie roll pop!

I would go back, but only to see if I could try to repeat the experience and take it further the next time.

So you paid $100 to lick her titty? Was it worth it?

I've been there. It is nice but doesn't quite feel up to the lavish claims they make about the place. Mostly it's little things that don't really matter, but forks and cheap architectural details add up. The food is ok and I had some kind of soup that was excellent. I'd never go there for 3 nights unless it was some kind of corporate retreat.

It would only be worth it if I could do more, a lot more!

Been to Salamander multiple times - but only because I had no choice.

It is maybe a 5 on a scale of 1-10. Food is okay but inconsistent. Service is okay but inconsistent. Accommodations are okay. Overall experience always leaves me thinking that something is missing and I feel MEH.

You would be better off going to the Inn at Little Washington for 3 days. Chef's Table in the Kitchen doing the Gastronaut Menu with Wine Pairings - out of this fucking world.

Lots of wineries, antique shops, and stuff to do in and around Little Washington and Sperryville.

Go hike Old Rag or the Devil's Stairs.

Meander along Skyline Drive. Some good short hikes to waterfalls and overlooks too.

Good eats at Public House or Griffin Tavern (live entertainment on weekends) in Flint Hill. Good eats at Tula's Off Main in Washington. Good eats at Thornton River Grille in Sperryville. Wasmund's Distillery tour in Sperryville is fun - right next to Copper Fox Antiques and Artists Emporium and the Druid Brewery.

Farmer's Market on the weekend in Little Washington is always worth attending. Breakfast at the Country Cafe in Washington is fun. Sunday Brunch at Tula's ROCKS!

^^ I agree with above. I've only stayed one overnight at Salamander and would give it a 6 out of 10. In my opinion it is ok for a work function but would not go there for a purely recreational visit.

If you don't mind a 2 ½ hour drive, Keswick resort near Charlottesville is better. The food is very good, the property is beautiful and historic, and the staff is great. I stayed there three or four times around 5 years ago. I assume it's still good. Plan on spending around $1000.00 a day including food and drink.

Sorry, not an authentic Middleburg Hunt Country estate setting without those little black slave jockey statues to tie up your horse. Mosby's Raiders would have never stayed in that place.
