A Michigan City police officer, who resigned after an investigation against him was initiated, has been arrested and charged with four counts of rape.
According to a report from the LaPorte County Sheriff's Office, Thomas K. Jackson, 51, was arrested Tuesday at a convenience store near his Trail Creek home.
Deputies said the investigation began in March after Michigan City police Chief Mark Swistek requested an investigation involving Jackson, who was at the time a Michigan City police officer.
The report stemmed from an allegation of inappropriate sexual contact between Jackson and the a woman who was reported to have such diminished mental capabilities that she could not consent to the activity.
Jackson has been charged with four counts of rape, each a level three felony. He is being held in the LaPorte County Jail in lieu of a $25,000 cash only bond.
Deputies said Jackson resigned from the Michigan City Police Department on March 14.
