Cary's got a sticky post over in the Fairfax County General forum explaining what happened.
Basically, someone tried to jack him for $100 and when he didn't cough up the dough (or the bitcoin, to be specific), they unleashed a botnet on FFXU that conducted a massive DDoS attack.
In simplest terms, there were all of a sudden hundreds, if not thousands of computers trying to get to FFXU, which caused all the problems.

They are actually pretty cheap, you can rent them for about $300 for the month. Most are useless against cloudflare protected sites.

Most likely the site was being attacked at that moment so cloudflare will be really sensitive and block lots of Ips. If you refresh the page too much, have a virus on your computer, or many other reasons could cause it. Though usually they will give you an option to enter a captcha code and continue on.

Most likely the site was being attacked at that moment so cloudflare will be really sensitive and block lots of Ips. If you refresh the page too much, have a virus on your computer, or many other reasons could cause it. Though usually they will give you an option to enter a captcha code and continue on.
