Why did they give me a Morse Code test in Basic?

I was required with another guy to take a Morse Code test while in AF Basic. Why was that, I thought Morse was obsolete. Also a language test.

Same reason the Navy wants everyone to go into nuclear propulsion... difficult to fill MOS's (specialty code) are pushed hard. I had to take a language test in basic even though I was not in language MOS. They hope they find an untapped ability and then try to convince you to change your MOS now that they have you by the balls!

Johnny cash was an Air Force Morse Code Intercept Operator who listened to the Soviets. Did you have to audition for guitar player and singer too?

that job in particular will give you Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, the touch is almost miniscule, far less than the thumb on the mouse.
