I do not ascribe to the belief that genetics has a large part to play on any "deficit" of masculinity suffered by Europeans or Americans. I think that you are on to something however when you mentioned being "unaccustomed to to struggle ". Europeans and this latest generation of Americans has had a pretty good gig these last couple decades. The same circumstances help explain the rise to the self centered modern conservative movement. Despite what movies tell us success in warfare seldom comes from great individual achievements. It comes from mobilizing society and getting it to work together for the common good. This we are in it together attitude then carries over into peacetime.
