Socialist Euphemisms

Have you ever noticed the way socialists come up with euphemisms for things that actually mean the exact opposite of what they suggest? Let me give you an example of what I mean. There's a lot of talk today about health-care "reform." Some of those who are pushing to "reform" our evil health-care system, in which people either pay for it themselves or rely on private insurance to help, to what they call a "single-payer system." And what do they mean by a "single-payer system"? It's the exact opposite of what it sounds like. The proponents of "single-payer" health care don't want a "single payer" at all. What they really want is for everyone to pay for health care – or at least the saps who are forced to pay taxes. "Single payer," therefore, is a euphemism for socialism, class warfare, redistribution of wealth. Who is the "single payer"? The government. And where does the government get the money to pay? By confiscating it from taxpayers. Today, if you are opposed to such a scheme, you are against "reform." A perfectly nice word like "reform" has been hijacked by socialists. So, if you oppose "socialism," you oppose "reform." Do you see how this word game is played? Lately, Barack Obama has been trying to explain why the economy has been getting worse and worse since he took office and implemented his agenda of "change." He explained this week that "change is never easy." In other words, he doesn't want you to look around and determine whether his program is working. He wants you to trust him. Even though Obama has had no meaningful opposition to implementing his program, he wants you to believe the "change" hasn't happened yet. Never mind that he has increased government spending by trillions in his first year in office. Never mind that he has taken over entire industries. Never mind that he has used his office to exceed constitutional limits on the authority of the federal government in ways heretofore unimaginable. Never mind that his party is in control of the legislative, executive and judicial branches of government. He wants you to believe the "change" you were promised hasn't happened yet – because clearly the country is worse off in every conceivable way since he took office. "Change," too, is a euphemism for socialism. Here's another example. Obama promises that no illegal aliens will be eligible for benefits from his new health-care system. Yet the numbers don't add up. He says everyone is going to be covered and includes in his calculations the number of illegal aliens who are currently uninsured. How is this possible? Simple. Obama is technically not lying, as Rep. Joe Wilson famously suggested. He's just withholding some important facts – namely that he plans to waive a magic wand called amnesty and make all the illegal aliens legal so they will be eligible for benefits under his system. Obama is master of this kind of verbal gymnastics. It's not quite lying. It's more like changing the meaning of words. It's more like artful and calculated deception. Why are socialists so skilled at this kind of propaganda? Because they've been refining their craft for a century. They know no one in their right mind would ever willingly accept the tyranny they seek to impose on us. So people need to be manipulated. They need to be indoctrinated. They need to be convinced that the current purveyors of socialism have learned from the mistakes of the past and have finally figured out how to make it work – even though it has failed 100 percent of the time it has been implemented. They need to make it all sound palatable, appealing, wonderful. Socialism surely doesn't work. But the socialist propaganda machine has never worked better.

Well..a perfect example of the ignorant leading the pack...number one, communism and socialism ARE NOT the same thing. Two, Cuba is communist..not socialist. Three, Cuba has had an embargo from the world's largest economy since the first day of it's inception. Its current state of economy cannot be attributed to the value of either a communist or socialist government. Four, the leading socialist governments are in Europe...those are the countries for an apples to apples comparison.

I'm not sure everyone would agree with your assessment of socialist-state countries as they compare to the US. Call it a Republican flaw, but none of these countries "speak to me" in such a way that I would want to pack my bags and emigrate

This is the Wikipedia list of eleven Socialist state countries - as of 2006.

===================

Cuba: Cuba is one of the most Socialist nations, as it has a mostly state-run economy, universal healthcare, government-paid education at all levels, and a number of social programs. It does not have a stock exchange.

North Korea: The same is true of North Korea, which has an almost entirely state-run economy, as well as the same social programs mentioned for Cuba. Like Cuba, North Korea does not have a stock exchange.

Venezuela: Economy has more private ownership, but the government social programs are quite extensive and the foreign policy is very left-wing. Cuban doctors and teachers have been brought to Venezuela to provide some medical and educational services.

China: A substantial part of the economy is still state-run, although there are not as many social programs as there once were and universal healthcare has been eliminated. Still has a Socialist-type foreign policy, for the most part.

Vietnam: A significant part of the economy is state-run. Close ties with Cuba, Venezuela, and Belarus.

Syria: Although not commonly referred to as Socialist in the West, Syria has a mostly state-run economy and universal healthcare, along with a left-wing foreign policy.

Belarus: Much of the Belarussian economy is state-run and some govt. social programs are available. Belarus has close ties with Venezuela, China, and other Socialist countries.

Sweden: Mostly private industry, but many well-funded govt. social programs are offered. Universal healthcare and government-provided education at all levels is made available.

Laos: A large part of the economy is state-run, and the government has close ties with most other Socialist countries.

Zambia: Some elements of the economy are state-run, including most of the media. Universal healthcare and primary education are available. Zambia has a left-wing foreign policy and is friendly with China and North Korea.

Turkmenistan: Mostly state-run economy, various free and subsidized services are provided by the government. Housing and transportation are subsidized, natural gas and electricity are provided to citizens free of charge.

Other countries which might be considered Socialist, depending upon the interpretation of different factors, include
Norway, Libya, Algeria, and Namibia.

Haven't you people figured it out, yet? There's only two sides to an argument with Vince; his side, and the wrong side.

Let me relate to you what I've learned so far. I am no longer responding to his posts, but for those of you that are, here's what you're dealing with:

In the Vince Utopia, there is no white majority. Everyone works hard and pays their taxes, but everyone makes the same amount to avoid the pitfalls of class warfare. The national currency is made out of rainbows, sunshine kisses, and the dreams of illegal immigrants.

Health care is free to everyone who lives in America, visits America, or thinks about coming to America at some point in the future. The doctors, nurses, dentists, etc. all work for free, and do a better job than their capitalist counterparts. However, the medical industry is largely ceremonial, because smoking, alcohol, obesity, and whiteness are outlawed, and everyone lives to be 237 years old (average) under the umbrella of Socialist health care.

Government-funding into stem cell research is at an all-time high; the ultimate goal is to find a way to finally get rid of all the Jews by engineering a virus that attacks them only.

Teachers also work for free and provide a better education than they do now-a-days. All students are required to learn spanish, and english is an elective. The passing rate is 103%, which sounds impossible until you remember that Socialism is just that fucking awesome.

Religion is completely outlawed. No ifs, ands, or buts. Anyone caught practicing one of these intolerant religions and not being an enlightened atheist will be put into a re-education camp, or summarily executed.

All the world leaders get together once a month for a group hug, and to re-affirm their commitment to always play by the rules and never tell a lie. It's a great time. Punch and pie is served.

There is no dependence on fossil fuels. All cars operate similar to the ones seen in Flinstones cartoons.

It's a beautiful vision, and I really hope I'm alive long enough to see this grand design come together under the skilled hands and loving guidance of His Greatness, Hugo Chavez.

Excellent post. No religion - looks like Vince would be outlawing Freemasons (except for France, which accepts athiests).

Flinstone cars - that would seem to outlaw those guys (Shriners?) who wear the fez and drive those tiny cars in parades ... those cars ARE electric, though (I think).

There has never ever been a communist nation. Nations may declare that they are communist but it is only in name only.

A communist is almost the same as an anarchist the key difference is that in communism just as the name implies people work together (communally) for a common cause - for the common good of one another. Just as in anarchy there is no government in a true communist nation. So obviously a government calling itself communist is using the term in it's philosophical abstract, very loosely. It could mean an implication of an end goal towards a true communist state.

Soviet Russia was socialist, China - god knows what they are now - quasi-capitalist/socialist state. North Korea - dictatorship/socialist.

The US is socialist but to a much lesser degree than it's European counterparts who are in turn much less socialist than the Soviet Union was.

When they start saying Communist, it generally means they are not too concerned about sending the military out into the streets to mow down citizens protesting. Also the use of secret police and citizen informants is pretty rampant as this will get you "favors" from the party leadership in your local area. The is usually the "distinction" between far left socialist countries and true communist countries.

No she doesn't.

The concern is that this country was founded by people that left Europe for good reason. When the Revolution and Age of Enlightenment ended you had three results - England, which embraced State Religion, France which went totally secular, and America which (at the time) was founded on the beliefs of Religious tolerance and personal freedoms with a limited federal government.

The issue is much more than just health care. Health care is one part of the whole, and just happens to be the current main topic. But Cap and Trade, and Immigration are both parts of a larger effort to institute Federally mandated redistribution of wealth. Sure, we already have some form of it - and in the past it was much worse in some ways. But taken all together, it paints a picture of more government control over even more aspects of our lives, and that is where people are drawing a line in the sand. They are tired of the folks in DC telling them that they know better on how folks should lead their lives. My hope is that as a result of this the libertarian party gains a larger voice - since they would apply pressure on both parties to ratchet back on the government mandates that are being shoved onto all of us by both sides.

Socialism: You have two cows. The government puts them with everyone else's cows, and you help care for the herd. The government issues you milk and butter, as its regulations allow.

Communism: You have two cows. The government puts them with everyone else's cows, and your district helps you care for them. Your community divides the mild and cheese- after the national, central, district and local leaders take a cut.

Capitalism: You have two cows. You sell one, and buy a bull to build your own herd!

How anyone thinks that Obama's plan to re distribute the wealth is good for our country is just not paying attention to the details. Obama does not want to promote growth, he wants to control the herd.

The only reason there is any confusion on your part is because of your misconceptions.

I have been clear where I stand on issues - some falls to Republican, some falls to Libertarian. Very little falls to socialism or the Vince agenda, other than I believe we need to have some controls on executive salaries and better regulation of industries that are considered "in the Public Interest". Not enough to stifle competition, but certainly enough to protect consumers.

People are angry with the government because of the lack of accountability by our leaders and a lack of progress on anything meaningful in Washington.
The absence of accountability ranks No. 1 in the hearts and guts of the average American, such as the people who protested on September 12. Washington spends billions to bail out big business and then can't explain where the money went. Washington spends $800 billion on a stimulus package filled with earmarks and pork projects. And now Washington is trying to create a trillion-dollar health-care experiment when over 85 percent of Americans are satisfied with their health care just as it is.
Unless you're a brainwashed moron like Vince this should make your blood boil. Perhaps, if the elected officials from Washington exhibited even an ounce of respect for the voters who pay their salaries it would be different. But the combination of a political class that ignores those with whom they disagree and a business class that ignores the very real suffering of the working class (if they are, in fact, working) while pocketing million-dollar bonuses has convinced the public that no one cares.
So go ahead and call me racist, you left-wing jack-offs. In typical left-wing fashion you will be completely missing the point.

As usual, you can't respond with something logical so you lower yourself to this type of retort.

Obama has already been caught in more than a few "omissions" - the Democrats' definition of a lie.

Even his own party recognizes that he tends to stretch it a bit to tell people what they want to hear and make them comfortable so they don't ask too many questions. Had it not been for Wilson calling him out, a major segment of the population would be very comfortable - and very broke for generations to come.

Good news from the WaPo - Baucus bill is now being defined as "the first draft" as the bi-partisan tear-apart begins. I was especially pleased to learn that the Democrats are really upset that Obama crawled into bed with the Pharmas and brokered a deal = WITHOUT CONGRESS' KNOWLEDGE OR APPROVAL - that his own Party feels he is an inept negotiator who borkered a worthless deal, and they want to reverse it.

Meanwhile, Wobbly O will follow through on his plan to EXTEND the war in Iraq and Afghanistan as promised - he "omitted" the words "in a decade or so" when said he would end the wars and pull the troops.

But, he didn't really lie, he just forgot a few pertinent facts?
