Umm, I can name two off the top of my head....
Mills Goodwin, from right here in Virginia was a Dixiecrat who switched to the Republican Party for his second non consecutive term as governor. Orval Faubus was a Democratic Governor of Arkansas who, after retiring, went on to support Nixon and Jesse Helms.
And then there is Lester Maddox, who after being a Democratic LT Governor and Governor of Georgia, ran for President in 1976 under the American Independent Party, the party formed by George Wallace that preached segregationists' rights.
There are plenty of scholarly books on the "Dixiecrats," which can help you understand the political situation and movements in the American South from the 1930's to the 1970's. If you read any of these books, you will increase your knowledge, and you can begin the journey of not having to rely on Rush Limbaugh for your angry talking points, and rickety baseline knowledge of American history. Also, Paul Revere’s never yelled “the British are coming,” that fateful night.

That's a stupid story. The colonists considered themselves to be British, so it would have made no sense for him to yell that.

Mills Godwin did it. If you look at Virginia governors in the late segregation era, most seemed to have dropped out of partisan politics after serving as governor. Harry F. Byrd Sr.'s term as governor ended in 1930, and he became a senator a couple of years later. I believe the next governor who went on to serve in the U.S. Senate was Chuck Robb in the 1980s.

I believe he claimed to have said "the Regulars are out". Boston wasn't under siege in early April, 1775. British officials could move in and out. Since the Gunpowder Scare though British armed forces (regulars) moving out of Boston was another matter.
