Buffett is known for shunning the quick buck and focusing on the long-term performance of his investments. He'd best not change that this week.

His Berkshire Hathaway (BRKB) investment house holds big pieces of Coke and IBM, both of which have taken a drubbing in the past two days.

He took a $1 billion hit on Coke (KO), which fizzled 6% on Tuesday after the company reported earnings that didn't live up to expectations. Even worse, Coke said it doesn't expect a much better 2015.

Coke is one of Buffett's largest investments. He holds 400 million shares and his son Howard sits on the beverage company's board. And he likes the products too. Buffett is often seen enjoying Cherry Coke.

2015 is shaping up to be Buffett's worst year relative to the rest of the U.S. stock market in six years. In what was supposed to a joyous golden anniversary year, celebrating Buffett's 50 years at the helm of Berkshire Hathaway, the conglomerate is down 11%.

And while Buffett's mantra has always been to judge a company's record based on its book value, he's now advising investors to consider Berkshire's share price over the long term.

Among the reasons for Berkshire's dismal 2015 were the losses realized by American Express, Wells Fargo, and Wal-Mart -- three of the biggest holdings in Berkshire's portfolio. They contributed a $1.2 billion hit.

As well, Buffett has clung to a stubborn dependence on oil and gas. While Berkshire doesn't own any oil and gas companies as subsidiaries, its railroad business transports mainly oil and coal. This year's dismal energy price performance hasn't helped matters there.

But International Business Machines (IBM) was perhaps Warren Buffett's worst bet for 2015. In November, he admitted that Berkshire had lost $2 billion on its investment in the IT services, software, and hardware company. Since Berkshire has loaded up on more than $13 billion in IBM stock since 2011, that's a 15% hit to its portfolio holding.

The $82 million Trump was paid by the publicly traded company bearing his name should have all been received income tax-free thanks to those NOLs. Thus his mismanagement, and the tax benefits he stripped out of the casino hotels before he sold them to shareholders, made him richer and them poorer.

Let me try to explain how this works in more simple terms that you can wrap your little pinhead around. He's just getting into speculation about the details of how various aspects may have been treated. None of that affects (not effects) the matter of Trump claiming someone else's losses. He doesn't even address that.

If you as an investor give/loan/buy stock or in whatever other way give my company money, then it must be recognized in some way. If I give you a turd in exchange, that doesn't affect that I still have to recognize that money in some way.

If the turd that you invested in/bought bonds/gave a bad loan against, whatever (doesn't affect the principle, just the details of treatment) goes tits up, or a partnership generates a loss that's passed through, or you otherwise have a monetary loss, then that is YOUR LOSS. I cannot claim it. You claim your own capital loss, bad debt, whatever. It is yours for ever and ever. You fill out the proper loss line on your tax forms and deduct it.

What happens on my side is entirely independent. I have recognized your money as in-coming money in some way. Now my company goes to shit. I now have a loss for whatever I have invested that I can deduct. I only have my loss not yours. The details in the article relate to how I must treat the in-coming money that I received as far as how that might offset the amount of that loss.

Got it dummy? I never get to claim your loss as you implied. I never in some way take your loss away from you. Assuming that what the author says is the case, which isn't even necessarily true, it simply affects how recognition of that in-coming money may offset my loss and the end size of my loss claimed.

This could all be resolved if Trump just shows his tax returns.

That's because you're a dumbass who has no clue and has never run any kind of business. The entire gaming industry in Atlantic City cratered, not just Trump. They built too much too fast and didn't have the draw that they expected. Competition within and from other areas developed quickly and just made that worse. It never has really recovered and lots of others lost their ass along the way. Trump actually came out of it better than most. Same thing happened in Vegas to an extent which is why it had to move away from relying entirely on gaming and to a conference and entertainment destination. Likewise some other areas.
