Meade Skelton answers that question!

I applaud input from anyone and think that each voice must be heard but incoherent babble should be taken with a grain of salt.

The litmus test is whether you can get sweet tea?

This guy must have grown up in a bubble in the 80's and 90's if he didn't know that people have always considered themselves to "live in DC" or "near DC", and it has always been a "transient place".

Oh wait, he grew up in Leesburg. Leesburg isn't "Northern Virginia" for any other reason than that it would otherwise be an island separated from the rest of the southern portions by the real northern VA.

The people who live in Loudon County but who work in Fairfax County or DC are no more "northern virginians" than the people who live in West Virginia and commute to the DC area for jobs.

Dulles and Ashburn are becoming more congested each day. Pretty soon Loudoun will look more like Centreville or Chantilly than rural Loudoun.

By the way, by most definitions, Loudoun and even Fauquier County are considered Northern Virginia. You don't need to live in the heart of Fairfax to be considered DC area.

Fauquier county and Loudon county are "in" "northern virginia", but they are not "Northern Virginians". They are commuters TO northern virginia.

To qualify that statement, 30 years ago, people in Chantilly were considered redneck hillbillies who commuted into the DC/Nova area for higher paying jobs.

Right now, if you live in Loudon and work in the Nova/DC area, you are a commuter who comes into the area for jobs.

But y'all: Northern Virginia is still part of Virginia. Why do they want to seperate from the rest of the state? Is it because they aren't old money?

N. VA is nothing like the rest of the state. Take a drive down I-81 or Rt. 29, stop off in places like Charlottesville, Harrisonburg, Lexington, Richmond, Danville, etc. - you'll see what I mean.

The most remote (as in furthest away from a major interstate) part of Virginia I have been is Floyd County. I dislike the sprawl and congestion of NOVA, but I don't know how anyone could stand living in southwest Virginia.

Blessed are the murderous.

I think thats true to a certain extent, but its not like that over all. Have you been to rural Loudoun-Fauquier county? Its a lot like the rest of Virginia.

Eh. Is that guy in the video for real? Im from Northern Virginia and no one I know acts or talks like THAT ! Unless they're some place like Winchester or Front Royal or something.

And I dont care what he says, Northern Virginia hasn't been the South for at least 30 years, and he needs to get over it. And if you cant accept that- move to Georgia or something. He must live in a bubble where everyone thinks its 1861.

The difference between Loudoun and Fauquier is even though they are rural, they don't have that redneck ass backwards feel that a lot of places in Virginia have.

Also, some people make fun of Front Royal and Warren County as being redneck, but it is not even close to being redneck like the area near the West Virginia or Tennessee border.

Blessed are the murderous.

It's Meade Skelton. He's an amateur musician from Richmond (emphasis on "amateur") who was a long time troll/kook here on FU. If you search back to 2007, you'll find countless threads he started on this same ponderous subject that he's so obsessed with. At one point, nearly every thread in Off-Topic was some dumb post from him followed by the ensuing flamewar. For over a year, it was Meade vs. everyone else here.

He's been gone for quite awhile now though, so I doubt he's the one that started this thread.

Im sorry but thats very ignorant to say. Rednecks are all over, ya know. The REAL vIRGINIA is 10x nicer than NOVA any day. And you're wrong- they have plenty of rednecks in Loudoun and Fauquier.

Rednecks are in aundance in Upstate New York!

Rednecks are everywhere, but the rebel flags and pick-up trucks with huge mud tires are nowhere as prevalant in Northern Virginia as they are in the rest of the state.

Blessed are the murderous.

Whats wrong with the Confederate Flag?

Virginia is wonderful state. But Northern Virginia is probably the most unpleasant , and most closed minded part of the state. Yes, it is. Because they think they are open minded, but they live in a little bubble. Im so glad I dont live there anymore. But believe as you wish.

Maybe because 65% of Virginia's roads are unpaved. Have you ever tried driving
in Buffalo Gap in a commuter box? They have a reason for those "huge mud tires"
and its mainly to get to work, grocery, whatever. Try commuting there during
the winter if you really want to have some excitement in your life. Potholes?
Get real. Go ahead and call them "stupid" because they live there but at
least they know who their neighbors are. They also have a cultural habit
of looking out for each other.

What are they doing with all our Northern VA tax dollars that are supposed to be allocated for roads?

I call major BS here. 65%? I'd be willing to bet it's less than 5%.
