The guy only gave Trump a copy of his medal. You have to earn it to be awarded a purple heart. Trump's purple heart is the same as any kid coloring a drawing of a heart with a purple crayon.
"John Bircher, the national spokesman for the Military Order of the Purple Hearts, told The Associated Press that anyone who receives the Purple Heart, a medal that honors servicemen and women injured or killed in battle, is technically entitled to give it away should they choose. However, he added, “for someone to have a Purple Heart, it’s an act of stolen valor. No one who isn’t entitled to the Purple Heart valor should have one,” he said."

Only if he claims to have won it. In other words a soldier walks into a bar with a number of decorations like Purple Heart, Airborne wings, Commendation medal and lies/ claims to have won them to impress the girls there, while the only one he ever won was maybe a "Good Conduct Medal". That is "stolen valor", to have one as a gift like if your dad died and left you his or in Trump's case a gift. It is not stolen valor.
