The F-series trucks are still the top sellers due to fleet sales but the American labor and parts content are greatly reduced from a few years ago. It's good to see that state and local governments are starting to buy more Toyotas due to their higher American content.

Are they assembly plants or manufacturing plants?

The money is in manufacturing, not assembly.

Asian companies are finding it cheaper to ship to assembly plants in usa apparently.

But at any rate (most) asian and usa "parent companies" allow international investment - and inevest in each other as a form of leveraging a sudden swings in customer preference.

Japanese car makers can make in USA and turn a great profit but American car makers cant. It's the Republican culture of corruption that has left us with no national pride.

I know they are good cars but I just cannot drive one anymore. I had two hondas - great cars. Boring though and I refuse to spend another second of my life in one.

I understand what you are saying. When I was younger I used to enjoy driving and had a bunch of different cars in my 20s and 30s that cost me plenty. Now that I am older I only care about comfort, reliability and safety. The Jap cars are a great choice for those things but not fun to drive.

You have to buy an Infiniti, Acura or Lexus if you want something that's reliable and sorta fun to drive.

American cars aren't exactly fun to drive either, especially the most common, the F150. Where the most use the flat bed will get is an ikea box or some plants from Homedepot. American cars look better than the entry level Jap cars, civics, camrys are so ugly. The new Fords look pretty good.

The new Chevy's look and perform reasonably well. I test drove the 2016 Impala and Malibu and thought they were top quality. About what you would expect from a mid grade Benz.

Most of the cost of a car goes into its production Einstien. Most of the production of the car occurs where it is produced. The benefits to the economy are not based on the corporate profits from the sale of the car. That is minimal even when the corporation is headquartered domestic. The real economic benifits are where all of its production takes place.

The final check goes to local parts manafacturers and distributors and couriers and workers and the state and federal government.

Where the production is based is leaps and bounds more important than which billionaires pocket the remaining profits get deposited in.

They are good stocks to own too, unlike every American car company.

NYSE:F has gone up only 20% in almost 30 years, and GM went to $0.

Meanwhile Honda and Toyota are up 500% in the same 30 years.

somewhere not too long ago sweden found a huge metal-iron deposit - i would guess japan is buying some of that

they stopped making volvo which was made from that iron - but they made mega ocean ships like many of the world's larges oil carriers today

what this chart lies about is where the deposits are and what size and what country is actaully running the mine, getting the ore and money ...

1. If they make the Tundras in America, Toyota makes 55million a year selling Tundras.

2. If they make the Tundras at home, they make 45million a year selling Tundras.

They make more $$$ making them in the USA. Period.

The OP is pointing out how much $$$ the USA makes from car companies making cars in the USA. including American companies.


An example would be:

1. Honda, by producing cars in the USA, creates $5billion of money that stays in the USA. (Irrelevant how much they make)

2. Ford, by producing cars in the USA, creates $4billion of money that stays in the USA.

3. Ford, by producing cars in Mexico, creates $3billion of money that stays in the Mexico. (Irrelevant how much they make)


So, Honda is more American since it creates more $$$ for America verse Ford.

Really simple. Honda could make 476billion themselves, but that does not change the $$$ they create here.



There is a great argument that if Ford would also build their vehicles in the USA, then they would be at $7billion created for the USA and then more American.
