Maybe 30 is the new 20.

Data released this week from the Census Bureau shows that 30-year-olds today — as compared to 30-years olds in 1975 — are less likely to have hit many of the milestones that have come to define adulthood. In 1974 three in four 30-year-olds had married, had a child, were not enrolled in school anymore and had lived on their own; in 2015, just one in three could say that.

1975 / 2015
Live on their own: 90% / 70%
Have ever married: 89% / 57%
Live with a child: 76% / 47%
Own a home: 56% / 33%

This isn’t the first data to show that millennials — generally defined as people ages 18 to 34 as of 2015 — are living more like the younger people of yesteryear. Living with your parents is now “the most common young adult living arrangement for the first time on record,” a survey by the Washington D.C.-based think tank Pew Research Center.

Young people are also less likely to be married by the time they are 34 than any previous generation, according to data from Pew. While in 1960, only about 1 in 10 adults ages 25 to 34 had never been married, nowadays that number is nearly half.

Millennials are also delaying having kids longer than previous generations — with many saying they never want children. The birth rate for women in their 20s was “by far the slowest pace of any generation of young women in U.S. history,” a survey out last year by Washington D.C. based social and economic policy think tank Urban Institute found. Furthermore, about one in three millennials say they don’t want kids at all, according to data from research firm Cassandra Report.

One reason many millennials are delaying many of these “adult” milestones is because of the burden of their student loan payments. More than half (56%) of millennials versus just 43% of adults overall with past or current student loans say they have delayed a major life event because of these loans, a survey released last year by personal finance website Bankrate.com found.

Millennials are also more likely to be in school in their 30s: 8% were enrolled in school at age 30 in 2015 versus 1% of 30-year-olds in 1975, according to the Census Bureau, which may also delay some of these milestones.

Also marriage is not what it use to be. Marriage between a man and a woman is good for society.

Student loan debt is crippling the country. At the moment there is no private sector solution. Its become the health care cost crises if the under 40 crowd. We need either or lower government education or free or very low cost online learning toward a degree. Why not have full time online degree programs for a few thousand a year?

Currently they are raping the students blind.

Progressive, liberal democrats are to blame for the moral decay and downfall of the once great United States.

that's when I started voting more democrat. during the bush debacle. since then the republicans just nominate too many clowns like palin or racist bullies like the current asshat from NY. they're not the same Republican Party they were twenty years back. they've become a party for old rednecks and low education whites.

I agree the candidates they been putting forward recently are jokes. Some of the guys in the beginning of the race were solid, credible individuals.

On the flip-side, the democratic party is so far off base from what it was 30 years ago, it's not even recognizable. It's like the movie idiocracy is coming true before our very eyes.

At least in principle, Republican / Conservative policies are far superior morally and ethically, but the actions of many in power (both sides) has tainted these principles.

End of the day, dems want to destroy the traditions and values of this country with their policies.

what policies Frank? Which are morally superior? The reason the Right is a clowncar is they have no discernible policies. So far we have 'deport all illegals' 'build a wall' and 'ban muslims'

Republicans insist on voting against their own economic interests. A nation divided cannot stand.

Some traditions and values need to be destroyed.

You mean like the tradition of personal responsibility and the value of a hard days work?

I'm pretty sure those are down for the count.

These old bums on here just seem to dislike our new generation, just because of their everyday contempt. They're ignoring that these bright young people are educated, healthy, wise, and have fun living out their lives. No more of those stereotypes for me.

YES

it IS clinton, obama, and hillary's fault

overcrowding, underpaid, massive theft, unimaginable abuses by the wealthy - and the largest pay gap between hard workers in town (private employment) and gov workers IN THE HISTORY OF THE WORLD

where just a coulple decades ago gov had a LOWER standard of living even after benefits were weighed in (but more secure jobs)

Let's bring this back around from the mindless political diatribes. This like almost everything else is politically neutral.

These generation wars are dumb. Adult is defined by character and actions. And these young gals from the first post are more like 20.

How is Trump a racist? What has he said that is racist? What has he done?
