Thoughts on the new layout?
Posted by: Cary ()

It's nothing drastic, I just got tired of clicking on 6 different folders to check for new posts so I made the "Specific City/Town" folder and threw all the other forums in there. Now I can just scroll down the list and look for that little "new" tag.

Like it? Don't like it? Think I should have done something different? Think other things need improving? Let me have it.

Good idea and all. It would have been nice if the folders could show whether a new post has been made rather than just the forums. Kinda weird having a bajillion links in that one folder.

much better. just a thought: with all the open space on the front page, could you add something that will show what the most recent posts are? also still missing is a link home.

yeah it's awkward. The next version of this software (actually due out any day now) will have the ability to show new threads within folders. wish there was something better than this I could do about it.

kklare -
if you register your login name it will tell you which threads are new/which threads have new posts. also, if you hit the "Forum List" button at the top it will take you up a level. I still don't really like the whole navigation layout which is why I made a "Forums" button in the bar on top so you can always find your way back home.

I thought you said you would change the wording of the arrest/ticket search to at least state that these people have not been convicted of a crime and may and some are innocent.. The police are only human and make just as many errors as the next person...lucky in Fairfax the great percentage of police are fantastic people doing a tough job....

prior to saying something please find out the facts,,,just like getting arrested by mistake . Cary had already said that the format would indicate that..As I talked to Cary about then if you are approached you don't have to expain anything just say "please read what it says and it does not imply guilt...

Yeah Josh i told you i would earlier.
There, the change has been made. It's a small disclaimer but it should clear some things up with whoever you're having a problem with.

Cary,

Don't you want to post a disclaimer like "for entertainment purposes only"? After all, that's why many folks come here.

When I was introduced to this site, I was taking a company sponsored internet security course. This site was introduced at the end by the instructor to entertain and break the monotony.

My point is, if someone is using this site as a background investigation tool then maybe you should start selling that service and retire.

Six years later, it appears to be working for the FFXU community.

this is the best blog in the interent. Hands down. I've never seen a massage board with the freedom and the atmosphere of Fairfax Underground. Most message boards make you go through this bullshit registration process that takes forever--you have to fill out a whole page of info, then they send you an e-mail (sometimes hours later after you've clicked 'register'), then you have to go and open the e-mail, and copy and paste some bullshit link into your browser to activate your account; and on some forums, you need to have a certain number of posts before you can do much of anything, like start a new thread. It is such a fucking pain in the ass waste of time. And the way moderators on other forums patrol the threads like fucking nazis.....what the hell is wrong with just having a few hard and fast rules and then turning the forum over to the users, like Cary does with this site? What is so incredibly important about an internet message board that every thread has to be policed like that? If someone is causing a major disturbance, step in and ban them. Other than that, just let it go. That's how it is here, and that's why I like it. Cary treats the users of this site like intelligent adults. He doesn't hover over every god damned post like looming death the way moderators on a lot of other forums do. And the forum isn't bogged down with unsightly, tacky, irritating graphic content the way a lot of forums are; no stupid avatars, no emoticons, no bullshit graphics at all---just the basics of communication. This should be the model for all internet forums. I'm not even kidding. This is really the best forum I've seen on the internet. It's the most democratic, open and easy to use forum anywhere. Fairfax Underground must stay in operation. What Cary has done here is an important contribution to internet communication which should be emulated by others.

It's so weird to hear you talking seriously for once haha. You always act like a weirdo (FFXU After Dark).

This forum is awesome. I love how you aren't forced to register. Also, you can say fuck, shit, bitch, cunt as much as you want!

Thanks, Mr. Misery. I appreciate it.

But the important thing to remember is that it's really not about me.

It's about you, Miz (may I?), and all the other great posters who make Fairfax Underground into the liveliest, and most exciting place on the web.

Believe me, I appreciate your, and everybody's help from the bottom of my heart.

Sometimes I have to be a little stern, but I want you to know that I really love all you guys (and gals!), with the possible exception of eesh.

Thanks again.

I am Cary

would it be possible to get the words "THIS IS A FORUM NOT A BLOG" posted at the top of every page? ;)

I'd rather have "Unofficially voted DC's #1 Blog 2010" at the top of each page
