Take the Surgeon General's Pledge

Surgeon General's Pledge

Help Prevent Childhood Overweight and Obesity and Secure a Healthy Future for our Children

Today, more than 12.5 million children – 17 percent of children and adolescents ages 2 to 19 -are overweight. Teaching children the importance of healthy eating and physical activity at a young age is necessary to help prevent overweight and obesity in this country. Together we can make a difference.

As Surgeon General, I ask you to join this movement to help children achieve and maintain a healthy weight by making this promise:

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Surgeon General’s Pledge

I pledge to:

- Be a role model by making healthy choices for myself.
- Help children be physically active through everyday play and participation in sports.
- Support children’s healthy eating habits.

A healthy future is our gift to our children.

Again, it goes back to leading by example. If you're the Surgeon General speaking about fitness, shouldn't you at least look you know what a treadmill does? As when you're going to join a gym and the salesperson is saying how great the gym is and how much it has to offer and they're 30 pounds overweight...not exactly a ringing endorsement.

I can't wait to see her trying to fit into a set of service dress blues.

Its amazing to see the PHSCC in navy uniform. What the hell are the ribbon bars for? First colonoscopy without anesthesia? First pacemaker where the patient lived for at least 60 days? First fisting without lubricant?

He's a surgeon, but he's also a general. And we both know, it's the
job of a general to, by God, get things done. So maybe you can understand why
he would get a little irritated when someone calls him away from his golf.

It is the do as I say, not as I do mantra of politics. R or D, it doesn't matter.

Actually, he's an "admiral". An admiral who is a general. D'oh.

Only in driving and politics.

It's pretty clear why so many kids are overweight.

They don't smoke.

When I was a kid I had to leave the house and ride my skateboard 5 miles, uphill both ways, to get a pack of smokes. Now, they can't buy them so they sit at home and play video games.

Oh, and their parents wont let them out of the cul-de-sac.
