Mexican staredown
Posted by: WTF r u lookin at? ()

Ever notice how Mexicans will lock on and eyeball you from 20 yards out when you're walking by? It's a half vacant, half despising stare for no apparent reason. If you engage and stare back, they don't look away, nor does it escalate into ill will or confrontation. They just stare on like you have two heads. Are they sizing you up for yard work or is it some cultural thing? Has anyone won in a staredown contest against a Mexican?

I noticed this, too, but I'm a little weird-looking so I always attributed it to that. They usually break eye contact with me, though.

Didn't I see this thread before? :) Although i think it was more about Vince and why they stared at him angrily....

Cultural differences - perhaps they have to "establish" street dominance when they go places to feel comfortable there? I would believe it is something like that based on the large number of Hispanic street gangs...

Ha ha ha! I love that song!

I have noticed this, too. It's only the assholes who are probably plotting to crawl in a window and rape someone who do it. I'm pretty tall and tend to dwarf most of those assholes, so I return the stare. I have no problem spitting obscenities right back at them when they get vulgar. They do eventually look away.

The key to walking down any street is to just look like you're ready to kill somebody at any second. If you carry yourself with confidence and exhibit an air of being able to handle yourself, most times people will leave you alone or not even look at you at all.

They are just undressing you with Their eyes and thinking of how they would like to violate your body. Most attractive women get used to it. Pay it no attention as it will only encourage them.

Well with your nose ring in (thanks INK) maybe you look like one of the ancient gods down there...

Yes. Which is why I made that statement. If I was embarrassed or ashamed of that, I probably wouldn't have said so.

It could just be like you said, a vacant stare. They aren't necessarily staring at you, but rather just looking at the moving object ahead of them, without much awareness or even thought behind it.

Of course, if you come from a central american country (I know for many people "mexican" is anyone from south or central america, or mexico.) or even parts of Mexico, it might be in your best interests to always keep your eye on the person approaching you so that you can size them up to figure out if they are likely to kidnap you or assasinate you. Don't forget these guys come from places like Honduras, where something like 7,000 people are murdered a year, or Mexico where thousands are kidnapped and never seen again. Or El Salvador, or Nicaragua where they probably grew up in the middle of bloody civil wars.

The Parade Of The Virgins has been canceled in Fairfax this year. One
got sick and the other refuses to march alone.
