Before Michael decided to become white, he was one of the best musical talents in the world. He still was one of the best at the end, unfortunately something happened to him along the way - for whatever reason - that changed how the world looked at him. Granted, all of it was brought on by his own behavior, but it is still sad in retrospect.

The one thing I was struck by watching the memorial today, was that regardless of his faults he really did change the world in a good way for a lot of people.

I liked his music as a kid, and a few of his later songs were good - but after he became really strange, and all the allegations of sleeping with kids came up I kind of felt like the Michael Jackson that I grew up listening to didn't really exist anymore. It was hard to watch him at award events - he had done so much damage to himself with all the plastic surgeries he didn't even look like himself anymore. I think his hair catching on fire when he was younger doing the Pepsi commercial really was the turning point.

For me, the memorial today made me remember the way I thought of Michael Jackson before he got weird. In that, the family accomplished what they set out to do - focus on the positive message he originally set out to push to the world, not what he became later as an adult.

Almost everyone has issues when they get older - we can only hope that we don't make mistakes of the same magnitude as his. I won't judge him. I still like his older music, and probably will for a long time.

Unfortunately for us, and him, his story isn't over yet.

Back when Thriller was popular I was too busy buying Police, WHO and Pink Floyd albums to buy that shit.

I was only 7 or 8 when Thriller came out, and I still have the vinyl downstairs in my basement. I like his older music. Probably because I listened to it as a kid. Then I moved on to metal. Therefore, feel his newer shit sucked ass.

A friend of mine works at the FAA, and all the streaming of the memorial service caused the servers (a server, dunno) to crash, leaving her unable to do actual work.
