Which is better?

Although I like both, Nirvana by far. The In Bloom video alone is a riot.

I'm going to say Foo Fighters. I think Nirvana is revered because of their role of being in the grunge vanguard. But if I have to compare the quality of the song writing and performances, I have to go with the Foo Fighters.

I see your point. Although I am not sure I would rank either of them as particularly stellar in regards to quality of song writing. There are plenty of other bands that came out during that early grunge period that were doing much more interesting things than Nirvana at the time, and the Foo Fighters now. Mudhoney, Soundgarden, and Faith No More come to mind. Fugazi too - I think Repeater came out in the early 90's and that was one of their best albums.

Nirvana without a doubt. It's just raw emotion captured in soundwaves. The Foo may have fancier songs or better production value, but it's not as effective as Nirvana. I like the Foo Fighters, but sometimes Grohl's vocals annoy the piss out of me...
