A man who was convicted of spraying semen on women in Maryland pleaded guilty Friday to similar charges in Fairfax County and was sentenced to jail time, but walked free out of the courthouse.
Judge Ian Flaherty sentenced Michael Wayne Edwards to 18 months behind bars. But, Edwards then appealed his sentence and Flaherty allowed him to remain free and continue his bond.
Edwards pleaded no contest Friday to two counts of unlawful filming and one count of public masturbation.
He found his victims at a Safeway in Reston, near a gym where he used to work. The prosecutor said Edwards recorded cell phone video under his victim's skirt and then followed her outside and shouted, 'Have you seen this?' and exposed himself.
The prosecutor said Edwards targeted the same woman twice in incidents that happened in July and August.
He's also being investigated for a September incident at a computer lot near his home in Centreville.
In that incident, a 44-year-old woman got off a bus and was walking home when she felt something on her back. As she turned, she said saw a black male with his hands covering his genital area.
Police determined the substance on the woman's clothing was likely semen.
Edwards had no comment on Friday.
Edwards' attorney told Judge Flaherty that he's lost all his friends, receives disturbing phone calls, harassment on Facebook and is afraid to leave his house. She acknowledged the disturbing nature of the crimes but said that they involved no sexual contact or violence.
Edwards is out on bond pending his appeal of his 18-month sentence. He has not been charged in the September incident, but it remains under investigation.
