I usually accomplish this without even trying.

Millions of years ago, when there werent many dogs in the world, we all
decided to have our first Canine Convention. The rule was that you had
to check your asshole at the door in order to avoid any "butt sniffing" as
it was considered disruptive and crude behavior. We were given numbered
tickets that corresponded with the last four of our SSN and our assholes
were hung on the appropriately numbered peg at the door.

Right smack in the middle of the Convention, a terrible fire broke out and
chaos and anarchy took over. In a panic, we just grabbed whichever asshole
we could and ran out the door in order to avoid being burned to death. Most
of us dogs were never able to recover their own asshole because all the
pegs were burned in the fire and we were unable to find the right match.

To this day, this is why dogs continue to sniff each others butts so that
hopefully, someday we will be reunited with their own.

Thank you for sharing that literature. It's like Aesop's Fables without a moral.
I am a little confused about something... That piece was written from the perspective of some million year old dog that is, somehow, still with us today?

Interesting observation Harry. This story has been passed down by word of
bark since the Canine Convention. We knew Aesop although he came along
much later and his morals are meaningless to us as dogs do not have them.

I feel honoured to be privy to such an ancient tale, sad as the mix-up may be. Surely the Bloodhounds were able to recover their missing property? Lucky, if you ever found your long-lost anus, would you still be able to swap?

Harry, even Bloodhounds sniff each others butts. If I found mine, I dont
know if I'd be able to swap as I lost my ass in the stock market and had
to sign some IOU's. (you're the only one who's ever asked that question)

I heard that story for the first time when I asked my dad why dogs do that.
At the time, I was 7-8 yrs old. One day, many years later, my 8 year old
daughter asked me the same question and I gave the same answer. No moral,
just a good explanation as to why. I can only imagine that my original
family ancestor in the 1730's brought that story with him from Northern
Scotland and he probably learned it from the Vikings.
