38 years since the passing of Elvis. Let us take today to remember.

I remember I was with my family at our beach cottage in Colonial Beach. I was 7 years old, but I still remember that day.

But we have Meade Skelton! He's still alive and well and the closest thing to Elvis there is today.

There's apparently an argument to be made that he actually committed suicide. He was taking a shit-ton of drugs by the end, a baggie for day and a different baggie at night. He got pretty good at dosing himself but the constant chemical assault was giving his body problems. So he doubled up and took two baggies. The book I saw basically said he'd never have done that by accident. Pretty sure his loved ones vehemently denied this possibility but it makes a bit of sense.

Not sure there's much to choose from at this level of drug use. He'd twice put himself into comas and his handlers had him on a very specific regime to prevent another. But then that kind of abuse can't be sustained forever and by the end, Elvis was apparently barely functioning. I think the official cause of death was 'heart failure', probably accurate but skirting the issue of the heroic amounts of drugs he ingested daily.

We'll probably never know the truth. I don't remember anyone even hinting that there was a suicide note despite the cottage industry of books about his death.

Peanut Butter, Banana, and Bacon sandwiches did him in.
