Perot was an old-school populist candidate, a no-nonsense southerner who could take votes away from both parties, all while a GOP incumbent was in office. He ran as an Independent from the start.

Trump is an elitist candidate, a true Manhattanite bullshiter who attracts votes from the hardcore tea party electorate leftovers of the republican party. He's running as a Republican, because he wants to beat the other Republicans.

Perot would have been great. He was a smart, practical guy with little ideology beyond making things run well. Too bad that he also was kind of a nut.

Perot's downfall was not being friendly to the media and answering questions on issues, and dropping out of the race for almost 2 months right before the election. I remember him almost walking out of a Meet the Press interview that summer after he got pushed to give a straight answer.

The problem is hardcore republicans will never vote for Trump. Trump was once a democrat and believes abortion is possible in some cases of rape.

I also seriously doubt Trump will get any swing votes from latinos, women and minorities. All Trump is doing is dividing the GOP. Possibly trying to steal republicans over to the Tea Party.

Fear not. LONG before the Jeb! gets the nom, Trump will have lost steam and interest, so he'll say 'I did what I came to do' and drop out. And he will, in fact, have done what he came to do: draw attention to Donald Trump. Any possible benefits he might have to the GOP or to politics is purely incidental, and the man has no intention of actually running for anything. Enjoy the clown show while it lasts, cuz it won't.

Which is not to say that Trump has no valid points - he does. But the making of them, the way he goes about it, pure naked publicity-seeking.
