Trump Tramples Facts in 2016 Campaign Kick-Off Speech
Date: June 17, 2015 10:17AM

Real estate developer Donald Trump’s speech announcing he is running for the Republican nomination for president contained a number of false and misleading statements on the economy, trade, health care and terrorism:

1) Trump claimed that economic growth has “never” been below zero until last quarter’s drop, which is far from true. It has been below zero 42 times since 1946.

2) He said “there are no jobs” to be had. In fact, there were 5.4 million job openings recorded at the end of April, the most in 15 years.

3) He said the “real” unemployment rate is “anywhere from 18 to 20 percent” and “maybe even 21 percent.” We see no factual basis for this opinion.

4) He boasted he would have blocked new Ford plants in Mexico by threatening to impose a 35 percent tax on vehicles and parts made in Mexico and shipped to the U.S. But only Congress can impose taxes and such a tax would violate the North American Free Trade Agreement.

5) Trump claimed the five Taliban leaders exchanged for Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl “are now back on the battlefield trying to kill us.” But all five remain in Qatar, where they continue to be monitored and are subject to a travel ban, according to the State Department.

6) He also made the misleading claim that health care premium costs are going “up 29, 39, 49 and even 55 percent.” He’s talking about some proposed rate increases on the individual market that still need regulatory approval. There are also proposed rate decreases or single-digit increases that did not have to be submitted for review.

Wrong. If you had paid attention you'd know that he hasn't declared a party. He could pull a Ross Perot and go Independent.

But he won't, because he knows that would guarantee Hillary's victory.

Correct. He was obviously wrong on that one.

He was speaking more generally. Of course there are some jobs around. But hiring for full-time quality positions still is lower that most would like to see with a growing economy which we don't really have.

He's generally correct. The 'official' unemployment rate typically used does not reflect true unemployment and underemployment. It may not be that high but in double digits.

Again speaking generally in the same way that Obama and everyone else says that they'll do or stop things.

They will be soon enough. The only reason that they aren't now is that Qatar extended the in country detention which was to end last month at the last minute.

Again generally right. The overall direction for rates is upward at significant levels since the government's back-stop for losses is ending and many if not most have been money-losers otherwise. Rates definitely are much higher and at that level or more for all of those who are not subsidized.

Generally speaking, saying “there are no jobs” when 5.4 million job openings are posted is flat-out wrong.

Bullshit. Please provide the factual basis to support Trump's (and your) assertion.

The truth is, Trump is barred by law from doing as he says. That makes him wrong.

In truth, the five Taliban leaders exchanged for Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl aren't "back on the battlefield trying to kill us.” Trump is wrong again.

That absurd self-congratulatory speech is really the best he can do? He's nothing but an obnoxious braggart with money. A Frankenstein created by our broken campaign finance laws.

Relative to +9 million looking for jobs, another 6.7 million unwillingly taking part-time jobs, and some 40% of the unemployed beyond that having given up looking at all, it's effectively no or not many good jobs vs to the number who need jobs.

The official U6 number is ~11% so it is as I said in double digits. Add in those who have dropped out beyond the time they are included in the U6 number, workforce population growth and new entrants who never enter the market and aren't counted, and it's probably in the 16%-ish range.

And that's far from being just something that he's saying:

As Obama and every other politician is "barred by law" from doing what they say that they want to do.

Yep. The only reason that they've been able to hold rates lower and get insurers to agree to rates lower than their requested increases is because of the back-stop. Once that ends, then they'll either not be able to negotiate the artificially lower rates they've been able to through the regulatory process or the insurers just won't participate in that market. No reason to lose money on every policy sold and, no, they don't "make it up in volume."

"Relative to...it's effectively..." Such nonsense.

Trump said; "there is no jobs” to be had. There are millions of jobs avaialble, an all-time high number in fact. Trump is simply wrong.

Nowhere near Trump's claimed “real” unemployment rate of “anywhere from 18 to 20 percent” and “maybe even 21 percent.” Trump is simply wrong.

But it isn't measured, so it is unknown.

I read what you wrote. Regardless the reason, they aren't now "back on the battlefield trying to kill us”. Trump is wrong.

Again, the reason doesn't matter. Today, Trump is wrong.

only someone benefitting from political insider wealth, the politically "middle class" - BENEFITTING FROM $9 trillion of obama.gov earmarked spending on paying immigrants to mass up and outvote the true denizens of the country for a hostile take-over ...

would pick hillary over trump

---------------------------
paying a group taxes to outnumber legitimate denizens, with motive of taking their seat in the world in exchange for votes

extremely illegal. the constitution forbids indirect taxation spending but MORESO deals with foreign countries against the denizens interests - which is exactly what that is. democrats are doing what is known as financial human trafficing - to prop up a counterfeiting ring - and democrats in other countries (europe) are helping them so they in their country can continue to deadlock money printing and "policy of who gets it" using their parliaments.

handing illegals aid (ie, foodstamps) to vote - illegal.

giving illegals (green cards) high paying gov jobs and allowing illegals to control wealthy / authoritive positions in gov for a some hot cash: illegal

there was nothing legal about it, Amercians complained the minute it started - and democrats have evaded legal suits a long time

ANOTHER matter democrats have evaded is the evolution of "government unions control colleges and certifications". to the extent ie "Hazel Construction company", or Truland Electric, is not allowed to train and certify employees

that makes a big difference because gov cheats and spends tons of money on phony materials (teaching loads of shit not needed on the job). gov has designed a school system to keep people coming back, to keep people answering fruitless book questions fucking forever and a day: the motive is clear. the gov employees profit heavily from forcing America to use their "service" instead of google and or an employer who's interest is to get the job done right, quick, at cost.

good companies (and in private sector a person can choose, in gov: no choice) are known to pay employees with a motive that "workers with no money can't spend or buy"

bad government sends your jobs and tax money over seas and uses it for import luxuries. they complain private industry is responsible.

bad government puts a gun to your head (police state) whenever they don't get what they want

good American business (say, a Casino) asks you to come back again - but doesn't force you

-----------------------

let's ask trump how many American jobs he sent over sea v. how many he created here, in the USA. infact i'd bet trump can complain the IRS has tried to force some of his business to go overseas using fony policies and newly baked laws from a foreigner run commerce dept.

I'm betting Trump has as good a report card to show when we grade on America.
