Col Sanders created the Confederate flag back in 1860 as the logo for his new chicken establishment. Each star represented a piece of chicken in his original 12 piece bucket. General Lee liked the flag design so much that he requested to use it as the official battle flag of Northern Virginia, adding an additional star in the middle to represent the 13 colonies. Colonel Sanders gladly obliged, and even added an extra piece of chicken to the bucket as a promotion. The flag was flown from the ration wagon at every battle thereafter, so the troops would know where the the delicious chicken could be found come chow time.

It is my understanding that with the current disdain for anything Southern or associated with the Confederacy or that could somehow offend anyone, anywhere in the USA, the name of Colonel Sander's Kentucky Fried Chicken will be changed to General Grant's Pennsylvania Fried Chicken, and the herbs and spices recipe will be changed not to use any that come from any of the states that were a part of the Confederacy.

As you can imagine, the northerners were not about to be outdone in the post-Civil War fast food race by a Southern Upstart.
In particular, veterans of the Iron Brigade, part of whose uniform was their famous Hardee hat, decided to form a competing restaurant chain, specializing in burgers and biscuits with gravy. The argued long and bitterly over whether to call it 'The Iron' or 'The Brigade', until one of their former junior officers said they should name the chain after their well-known hat.
It is perhaps appropriate that Hardees is the one fast food establishment that has competed so well with KFC in the South, given that the founding Iron brigade members were themselvles one of the few Northern units who could reallyl go up against the Rebs on an even basis.

I have a friend whose wife's brother-in-law works at NSA and he says that Pope Francis' speech before Congress contained a sequence of code words that were a message. The message was actually an official request for Col. Sanders chicken spice recipe. He is willing to grant absolution for all sins and guarantee eternal life in heaven to anyone that can secure the recipe. Supposedly only Jesuit's were in on the secret code. Rumor is that if secured the Vatican will issue a Papal Bull establishing KFC chicken nuggets as a permanent replacement for the sacramental bread at mass.

I am a high school student in California and I was researching Harland Sanders when I heard about KFC offering money to people to name their kids Harland.
