I got my copy of "Field of Lost Shoes" and then I saw this chunky dead guy at the end of the film in blue- and I realized it was our Meade!

Check out Him here @ 1:27 54. Its him!

its good that he played a yankee. The Yankees were a lot fatter than the poor starving Confederates.

Meade did an excellent job in portraying that dead soldier, superb and supreme job of acting.. Meade is an actor that reflects the bygone days of Hollywood when actors could sing, dance, and play any role. Five stars Meade!!!!

The reviews on that movie are pretty harsh. Sounds like a real low budget film.

I always suspected Meade was at his best when he was asleep.
It should be no surprise that he excels at 'playing dead'.

The movie was horrible. I watched it on Netflix and it was mostly uninteresting cadets walking around VMI and having everyday conversations and Generals talking about each other. The battle finally takes place in the last 10-15 mins of the film and even it was boring and uneventful.

The end is supposed to make us all feel good about how us little folk can achieve big things and that we can count on 13-16 year old kids to save our ass when the shit hits the fan.

The comical part was the old wise black man who, despite his life of servitude to whitey, loved and was loved by all the confererate cadets.

The title must come from the one quick scene where a soldier steps in mud and his shoe comes off.

Meade gives a stirring performance and may have been the best actor in the whole movie. I've not seen anyone be a more convincing corpse, ever.

My Rating is 1 of 5 stars. The one star is for Meades soul wrenching scene.

LOL. We he is a featured Extra in the movie while all people do here is sit and make fun of him. But I don't see them in a movie with Lauren Holly. He may be late to the game, but he's getting there!

Can someone make a video still?

Now that's acting! Did not give a damn about how dirty he got or the bugs in the mud, Meade went and did the job. An actor of lesser ability would have had a double or "stand" in do the scene. Meade baby, you got a portfolio going? I see a "star" on your dressing room door. Meade stole the show!!!

So, let me get this straight. Other "actors" had the ability to understand if you were shot, you fell down and died. Ergo, other actors had their faces or back of the head in the mud, like real dead soldiers.

Meade, did not wish to dirty up his face, so he pretended to be dead, while looking asleep, using his arm as a pillow. I am surprised the director didn't catch this and order Meade's face in the mud.

Smart move by Meade, if he fell with his face in the mud, how could he prove it was him? What identifying feature could he use? Now he is there for posterity, he can tell his grandkids: "See that's me" Meade is like a grand chessplayer, 3 steps before anyone.

Yes, and all actors and producers can look at this stellar set up, and say, "Wow! I am convinced he fell asleep after a warm glass of milk on the battlefield."

He has to have kids before grandkids. He has no kids. As a matter of fact, there is no way he could possibly have kids.

If he is freshly dead or in the act of dying, it is very plausible that he would be positioned that way. He fell down and put his arms in front to break his fall only to be punctured by a bullet.

I think the Director decided to use his shot beacuse it was actually more compelling.

As this photo shows, Meade is excellent at playing dead.
It is when he animates that he looks like effete, fat, fucktard and makes all right thinking folks a little queasy.

Not a bad job of acting. I had a preconceived notion that Meade messed up the whole scene by reading the above comments. The thing is, his significant contribution really enhanced the film. I wonder how many "dead" ended up on the cutting room floor? The editor displayed a great eye for detail on that one, you feel some sympathy for the dead soldier meade portrayed in that he looked so young, little more than a teenager in fact.

First, Meade was in his 30's when the scene was shot, not a little more than a teenager.

Second, if that is the look they were going for, fallen young soldiers, then they should filmed 11 year old boys portraying dead Southern soldiers. Drafting 11 year olds to go into battle was one of the more shameful and inhumane things the CSA did during the Civil War, aside from that whole human slavery thing that started the war in the first place.

Third, Meade looked asleep, not shot dead.

cue Meade's reponse about slavery not being a factor in the cause of The Civil War.

They didn't have enough Union dead extras, probably. There was something about the way he was positioned that did look like sleeping and it caught the Diretors eye. Because some times dead people do loook as if they're sleeping. Especially if he was dying in the scene.

The way he fell was graceful and different. They had plenty of dead Confederates in the scene. They used his shot for contrast.

I wasn't impressed with the performance, and he looked like he rolled around in a vat of chocolate sauce, not mud.

Not an authentic or believable performance. He looks like your typical side sleeper with the pose. A true artisan of drama is on his back or stomach.

Meade is a sell out, portraying a Yankee.

A real Southern gentleman Meade is not.

For the love of fame, Meade Skeleton has gone the way of The Beatles , he has sold his soul to Satan.

To be fair to Meade, Meade did insist that they use chocolate sauce instead of fake blood for that scene or he wouldn't sign his contract.

Of course, Meade is well known to have 'star fits' on the set. The producers were hell bent on getting the young, up and coming major talent on the screen for this pivotal role. THey were willing to put up with his eccentricities.
