Another Obama lackey is jumping ship. This time the head of the agency in involved in the botched Obamacare roll-out.
LOS ANGELES (MarketWatch) -- Marilyn Tavenner, who oversaw the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid during one of the most tumultuous periods in its history, is stepping down as the agency’s administrator, the agency said Friday.
Tavenner will leave CMS at the end of February and be replaced temporarily by Andrew Slavitt, who is second-in-command to the departing Tavenner.
Tavenner oversaw the agency as it tried to implement the Affordable Care Act’s rollout in late 2013 and early 2014, but met with initial disaster when the federal government’s website, HealthCare.gov was beset with arduous technical difficulties.
Those problems ultimately were fixed and the agency was able to surpass sign-up estimates by the time the first open enrollment period ended in March. But the episode left a stain on the department’s ability to cope with the massive law, and it didn’t help when Tavenner later admitted that although Obamacare enrollment exceeded expectations, more than 300,000 enrollees were "inadvertently" (wink, wink, nudge, nudge, know what I mean?) counted twice.
