Is it worth driving to the west coast?

I'm in the Midwest visiting family, it would be 2000 miles to San Diego from here. Would it be worth driving there or is everywhere in this country pretty much the same now? Minneapolis has some nice areas but I was surprised how much was the same, stores etc.

Yes, if you want a real road trip, get on Route 50. It goes through Northern Virginia all the way to Sacramento.

Blessed are the murderous.

I would highly recommend driving from Minneapolis to San Diego! Plan your trip carefully and you'll see mountains, deserts, vegetation and vistas that will make you forget the midwest. If you can, hit Flagstaff, Arizona then drive south to Phoenix. I made that trip 30 years ago and will always remember that drive as one of the most beautiful I've ever taken.
Sure, the towns and cities across the states have the same stores but the country between the cities and towns in the southwest and west are nothing like you've seen in the east and midwest. Take the roadtrip and you'll never forget the experience!

Fuck that.

Jet Blue for $400 to Long Beach and land in a circa 1940's airport.

Arrive on a Thursday afternoon/evening or Friday between 10:00-4:00.
That's when all the weekend warrior hoes fly out of CA to Las Vegas to turn tricks and dicks.
Best looking whores in North America.
Your jaw will drop repeatedly as you walk off the plane and wait for your luggage.

More boobs than a GOP Convention.

Rt. 50 starts in Ocean City, MD, and runs to Sacramento, CA. Or, if you prefer, it starts in Sacramento and runs to Ocean City.

It depends on how much time you have. 2000 miles is at least 3 days of driving. At some point, you're going to get sick of driving and your view from the car is going to be most of the sightseeing. If I had to do another road trip, I'd go from Seattle to San Diego on the Pacific Coast Highway.

if your trying to save time it's definitely not worth it. its a longass drive, definitely can't be done in one day us you'll have to stop to eat more than once, theres usually not much traffic though depending what time you leave

Ocean City to Sacramento. To the op, grap a road atlas, compass and go. Stay off the interstates. America is more than malls,McDonalds and Walmarts. Done it twice via motorcycle and convertible. Life is for the living and you only get one chance.

I think it would be kind of fun to take 50 all the way from OC to Sactown. Lots of lights and slower than the interstates for sure, but probably a chance to see more of the real 'Merica.

Being that this might be your first time to the west side of America I should warn you that if you are visiting california to buy at least 3 bottles of Visine.

When I arrived in California I was so happy but then moment I stepped foot on the ground and started breathing the air and blinking I was like OMG!! My eyes sting like hell!

Might be from the left over pollution they had which was very bad in the 1980-90's.

Not sure how my eyes might react today. Air quality might be a bit better there now.

Meade has always wanted to go to the west coast. Someone should carpool with him.

I've done cross country trips a bunch. Road a bike once. In a van with a band a few times and many solo trips for drug runs or just fun. Do it.

Only marijuana. Usually no more than 20 pounds at a time. Hey, the money was good and it's what America is about, capitalism.

Road my bicycle with a friend during college. Good times.

I played guitar. No sluts allowed in the van. Many a free private dominatrix show in NYC though. That was fun.

I love this country.

No shit. If you just hang around strip malls, it's gonna look pretty similar anywhere you go. The west has a completely different climate and geography if you're from the other side of the Rockies. If you're curious and have the free time, why not just go check it out?

the level of ridiculous teabagger morons increases 20 fold once you get out into those flyover red states, it's worth checking out just for that, stop in at a walmart, some of the stupidest redenecks on the planet.

Take the Northern route, it is too hot for the southern drive, I took the southern route during the summer and the driving is pretty rough. You deal with some pretty severe thunderstorms that are blinding. The Northern route is cool, you pass through Deadwood SC, Badlands, Mount Rushmore, the national Parks, and can stop at "Walls Drug" a tourist trap.

California has this weird, isolated vibe to it. It's like a fantasy land, where the inhabitants have no clue or concern what's happening in the rest of the country. I think all that constant sun bakes their brains and turns them into dopes... Bro.

First time visiting Southern California a couple years ago. Observations...

1. Homeless people EVERYWHERE. It was weird to see bums loitering around outside the downtown areas, in what could be the equivalent of a Manassas or Centreville. In my experience, it's pretty rare to see bums outside of downtown DC.

2. It really is somewhat of a culture shock when you walk through the local grocery chain and struggle to find any fellow whiteys. Guess what? There's a huge Latino population over there! Of course we all hear about that, but it's interesting to experience first-hand.

3. And who knew you could buy liquor outside of ABC stores?! Yes, you can head to a grocery store and grab a bottle of Captain Morgan. Or two...

4. Never seen so many dumpy cars with flashy rims in my life. If you can't get enough of 98 Toyota Corollas with tacky flame decals and rims worth more than the car is, California is the place for you! And don't forget the dude-bros with obnoxious, lifted trucks.

5. California goes all in with the bike-lanes. I know we've started to implement them here, but it's not nearly as extensive as it is out there. How progressive of them! (gag)

6. They have an HOV/Diamond lane there as well. Only difference is there's no off hours where everybody can use it. What the fuck?!

Just drive the shortest distance and spend the sightseeing time in Las Vegas, San Diego, and Los Angeles. There's more than plenty to do in those three, and the 2 nights in Las Vegas can be used as a 'rest' break.
