Even with all of that, I'll bet the cat's preferred position is on the keyboard or your valuable paper documents on top.

Haha yes, when I lose something important, 9 times out of 10 it's under my cat.

My cat tries to the eat the eraser on my mechanical pencil. It's very irritating when writing.

They need to line the inside parts of that desk with paper or cardboard. For some reason cats like paper.

Indeed. Any living thing they find inside the house, they feel they must destroy it. I can even alert them to bugs with a special word they learned as kittens, though I try to save the spiders from their wrath. I'm always fearful they'll get bitten by the spider as they "play" with it.
That desk is fantastic, though mine would soon tire of its tunnels and be right back in front of me and on top of whatever I'm doing.
