Obama's Dow Sliding Back Down! Crazy Economy

Appears the irrational exuberance by all the drones is a bit premature. Three and a half months into the year and today we're down below where we started.

That's because he brought it down to just over 6,000 in March 2009.

If God was really on your side Republicans, would he have allowed Obama to have recovered the economy so flawlessly?

Think about it. God hates you, you are the devil reincarnate. Blessed are the poor, you're evil men that empower those whom enslave those in need. Not only that but you do it in the name of God.

You are cursed, take a hint. There is nothing righteous about any of you. There's only so much biblical principle you can abandon and still call yourselves a "values voter."

God is not on your side.

I love how the twerp Paul Krugman is finally starting to change his tune a bit. A recent article on Salon somewhat reflects how he's waking up to the realities of America. He even knocks on Obama's stimulus that didn't work out so well. Slowly ... the Liberals are starting to wake up to the realities.

From the article:

“We’re doing worse than anyone could have imagined”: Paul Krugman says the “good guys” must fight the “pain caucuses”

People have started to accept our terrible economic situation as the "new normal." That has to change, Krugman says.

There may not be “any major economic crises underway right this moment,” but that doesn’t mean we’re not stuck in the middle of a “miserable” economic situation, writes New York Times columnist Paul Krugman.

So dire is our current situation that even paltry economic news — like 1 percent growth in Spain’s depressed economy with 55 percent youth unemployment — is celebrated as a major triumph. “We’re doing worse than anyone could have imagined a few years ago,” Krugman notes in his Friday column, but people have started to accept terrible economic conditions as the new normal.

** The classic example is the Obama stimulus, which was obviously underpowered given the economy’s dire straits. That’s not 20/20 hindsight. Some of us warned right from the beginning that the plan would be inadequate — and that because it was being oversold, the persistence of high unemployment would end up discrediting the whole idea of stimulus in the public mind. And so it proved.

I took a quarter million out of stable value funds and slammed it into blue chip funds just after Obama was elected the first time. I cashed it out last month and it more than doubled. After I pay cap gains tax I still walk away with 237,000 in profits. Thanks to Mr. Obamma!!!

In the linked article, it notes that U.S. investors have over $5 Trillion in their IRAs. I heard something similar a few months earlier, but the amount I heard was much greater. That, my friend, has the government salivating their chops for getting their hands on the money.

Government should just change their motto: "Save for America's future, because we (the government) has no idea how to save"

Same thing here. I cashed out around 15,700 and made total profit of $312,000. I left the other in the market. I really didn't think the DOW would go over 16,000. Now I wish I would left the full in of course and cashed out at 16,500.

Still I'm up $312,000 safely. I'll put that in bonds now until I see who wins in 2016. If Hilary wins I'll put a portion in for the next ride.

I'm not being political. I'm pointing out that in the current market I made $312,000. I'll splurge with the first $12,000, then reinvest the rest.

With part of the $12,000 I paid off my BMW, added a new bar on my deck(I built it) with a stone BBQ and hottub. I still have $7,000 to play with. Probably take some girl on a cruise for $3,500 and just blow the rest in local bars and festivals with friends.

I'd say that's a good economy for me.

First off, congrats on your Stock market returns, that is great, for you.

But....
Go ask the (true 15-25%) unemployed, with no svaings, about the economy.
Go ask the 1 in 6 people on food stamps in this country about the economy.
Go ask an ecomomist what they think about the U.S. raising and raising and raising our public debt levels about our economy.
Go ask the Fed about their magic tricks, issuing and buying their own debt to prop this all up.
Go ask the world leaders who are ready to pull the plug on the U.S. Dollar and petro Dollars as the world currency about the U.S. economy.
Go look at grocery store prices sky rocketing, while the earnings of average workers are flat.

obama has done nothing. This stock market jump is all about the Fed and their magic tricks.

If someone explained to anyone beforehand the Fed's idea of what the Fed has been doing, anyone would say, "They can't do that, no one would allow that type of BS". Anyone can see that self issuing and then self buying debt at the same time is insane. China and other countrys are not buying the new debt being issued, The Fed is issuing and then buying their own debt. It is insanity.

Just because someone had a nice stock acccount to start with and rode the Fed's BS magic tricks to fuel a stock market gain does not mean that the over all U.S. economy has recovered.

The middle class is dying in America and eventually that will hurt the wealthy.

This country is in real trouble, we are massively in debt and the idiots in Washington, the idiots in BOTH PARTIES are doing very little to help us get out of trouble.

It seems that no one is minding the U.S.A. store like leaders are in countries like Brazil, Russia and China. Those countries worry about the health of their country's back bone. I am not saying I like the commies or socialist or whatever, and I love America... I am saying it looks like no leaders in America are worried about the over all store. It seems most are more worried about their individual wealth than the over all health of our country, and in the end it is going to screw us all.

I hate to tell you, but:

1) Paying off the balance on a BMW isn't wealth.
2) Adding a new bar isn't wealth.
3) A stone BBQ isn't wealth.
4) A cruise for $3,500 isn't wealth (but, one has to question a $3,500 cruise - what is it? On a bacteria infected Princess cruise line?)
5) Blowing the rest on local bars and friends isn't wealth.

If you had confidence in your investing, you would have taken your earnings and reinvested them. Possibly this time around in something a bit more diverse or possibly stable since the blue chips might not do as well in coming months.

Furthermore, just because you were able to cash in, still doesn't equate to the whole economy. It's going to take a bit more than a handful of investors to cash and spend their gains on more frivolous material crap to truly keep an economy moving.

Just being objective.

I want to say the actual long-term tax was $23,000 but my accountant offset the tax by deductions. So really it was around $3,700 once I paid a penalty for some SEP IRA stock I shouldn't of cashed out. I even signed a form clearly agreeing to the penalty but didn't read it. That hurt a little but live and learn.

If you don't know what long-term capital gains tax are then it's not even worth me trying to explain it the rest. Especially about Trusts.

I HIGHLY suggest you get yourself a good accountant. You won't have to worry about anything other than signing your return plus YOU will certainly save a ton of money on your taxes.

You seem to be the one who doesn't know what they're talking about or, more likely, just full of shit.

You don't 'offset' capital gains with 'deductions.' Capital gains/losses are calculated separately from regular and other income and deductions. Beyond special tax treatment for certain types of investments, which wouldn't be the case here, there are no deductions to capital gains beyond capital losses.

You also don't transfer capital gains to yourself without tax or gain any tax benefit via 'trusts.'

Your numbers aren't adding up and neither is your earlier BS. In order to make the gains that you claim, you would have had to have experienced no losses on the way down, been all in cash coming out, and bought the perfect stock/fund at the absolute low of the market. Didn't happen.

May I suggest you get a better accountant.

Not worth explaining but I'll give you another great offsetting deduction called charity.

Taxes is calculated off your TOTAL income.

May I suggest you not try to bullshit people who know better than you?

Actually, taxes are calculated based on your AGI not total income and capital gains have a disproportionate effect on AGI relative to other forms of ordinary income.

Charitable contributions do not reduce the income basis which is increased by whatever capital gains and they only benefit you to the extent of your tax rate (i.e., it's not a dollar-for-dollar offset).

Also, you can only deduct what you actually give away. Which means your scenario above would be impossible since you could not 'reinvest' or otherwise benefit from money which you gave away.

Try again?

Seems like some people might have missed this, but he's dead on with this.
