Tesla is free to sell cars in NJ, as long as it follows the laws that govern the sale of every other brand of car.

When it comes to perserving the interests of corporations. Government has no size limit for those causes. Its never too big to increase the police state either. Its only too big when it comes to the needs of the people.

"Special accommodation"?? Tesla is simply innovating with a new and superior business model that cuts out the middleman and saves the consumer money. If the dealership model is truly superior, then they should have no problem completing with Tesla without freaking banning them thru the government.
Should direct purchases of Apple laptops be banned as well? You're saying Apple should be FORCED to only sell thru a needless middleman, just because a powerful lobby got a bullshit state law passed.
Fuck republicans and everyone else that tries to stifle progress.

I think someone really doesn't understand business at all,and owns Tesla stock. Get rid of it companys business model is an epic fail.

Just so we're clear...Tesla is not fighting for ALL cars to be sold their way, they would just like the option to sell THEIR cars, THEIR way.
And let's also be clear...the ONLY reason the current automotive business model of customer buying from dealership and dealership buying from manufacturer is still in place? Is because the Nat'l Automobile Dealers Association (NADA) has lobbied more money to protect THEIR interests than Tesla has.
Look...you don't like electric cars? Fine. You think Elon Musk is a soon to be world terrorist bent on marching his armies to the 4 corners of the earth? Fine. But why does anybody (other than dealership owners and their employees) have a problem with this? Because they might be out of a job? I've had 2 career tracks obsolesce on me...so, I went out and developed new skills and found a new career track. Pull on your work boots and grow a pair.
Meanwhile...can we make some fucking room for a car company that sold $2.013 Billion in cars to GM's $155.42 Billion in 2013? Let's let the market decide...or are you guys afraid of someone who does things in a different way?
Hell, my last 3 cars I've bought totally over the Internet anyway. I went in for test drives and regardless of how I felt about the car I said, "Thanks...I'll email you when I'm ready to buy." I found the car I wanted with the options I wanted and I let 6 dealerships fight for my business over the car. I wired in my deposit, my bank emailed in the remaining financing and my insurance agent emailed them my proof of coverage. When the sale was clear, they delivered my car included with the final sales price.
If this is how people want to buy their cars...what's the problem?

And a small number of mega-dealers control most of the market.
Tesla has storefronts and service centers in NJ. Guess the difference is they don't keep a lot of inventory like most dealers.

States are forcing Tesla to directly subsidize car dealers in order to (1) preserve jobs at a time when they are eroding and (2) indirectly subsidize the state.
It's a form of taxation contrariwise to the natural growth of a prosperous nation and indeed humankind.
