Bill Wood's Real Resume

Sorry, but I truly was Wilbur on "Mister Ed"

WILBUR POST (Alan Young)
Alan Young played architect Wilbur Post (pictured right with Mister Ed). Young was born as Angus Young on 19 November 1919 in North Shields, England and was raised in Canada. He made his entertainment debut as a comedy monologuist aged just 13 and later worked as a commercial artist and cartoonist. Young also had presenting jobs on Canadian and American radio stations before serving in the Canadian Navy.

He entered the film industry in 1946, but despite some good opportunities that included the title role in the movie Androcles and the Lion his career never really took off until The Alan Young Show won him an Emmy in 1951. He also had a steady role on Saturday Night Revue in 1954 and showed up on countless shows between 1954-1960, including G.E. Theater: Wild Luke's Boy, The Steve Allen Show, Studio 57: Swing Your Partner, Hector, and Startime: Tennessee Ernie Meets King Arthur.

When Mister Ed ended in 1966, he returned to the big screen for another time, heading the film and broadcasting unit of the Christian Science Church. He later retired to do voiceovers for cartoons. He has since guest starred on a wide array of TV shows, including The Love Boat and Murder, She Wrote, and was a regular on the 1988 show Coming of Age. Young has also been seen at numerous Mister Ed fan conventions - singing the theme song!
