Need help selecting a family car...

My wife and I have 2 kids and we're not having more. They're 2 and 4. We drive a fuck ton both locally and regionally. I'd like to get a family car but I refuse to buy an SUV or minivan. I'm thinking VW Passat Wagon but they stopped making them in 2010. My budget's $30,000.

Sat in the back. I'm 6'6" and weigh about 275.
Was blown away by the amount of room and space in that vehicle.
Not a fan of the exterior cosmetics and boxy look, but the flex is huge inside and gets great gas mileage. Plenty of storage space in the rear - which is where WingNut takes it - a lot.
