Fox News Misinterprets New Obamacare Enrollment Stats To Predict Its Doomsday

Fox News misled viewers by claiming that new Affordable Care Act (ACA) enrollment statistics mean that the law will be unable to "balance the books" -- ignoring the many safeguards in the program designed to maintain cost stability and expert analysis that has found that the current number of young enrollees meets the bar for maintaining the program's sustainability.

Aetna is debating pulling out of the exchanges all together by the way, they must really hate profits huh?

More than being negative toward Fox, this just stands as (yet another) example of how Media Matters manipulates its own stories.

Fox got it right. They cited the stats as they were and relative to the adminsitration's own stated goals. They didn't 'misinterpret' anything.

Media Matters then goes off on a tangent attempting to ignore the actual stats as cited and say 'don't look at the numbers as they are, Ezra Klein says all the young people will all be signing up later!' lol Even if that does work out that way, it doesn't affect that the numbers are what they are at a given time as they were cited.

Then, they further distort the matter by citing the Kaiser study which addresses the ratio of young to older, and the impact relative to causing a 'death spiral' effect specifically (versus other negative impacts more generally). They ignore Kaiser's own statements that a poor ratio will cause pressures on the system and profits and likely cause premiums to rise in 2015.

MM does this same kind of shit all the time - write an article that cherry-picks some specific statements, and then doesn't even address that directly. They frame their response slightly off from what was actually said to make it look like they were wrong. Same old crap.
