Tony Kornheiser
Date: December 25, 2008 04:41PM

Since it appears Mike O'Meara's show won't be around much into 2009, I've made it my New Year's resolution to highlight another untalented buffoon in broadcasting. Can anyone explain to me why Tony Kornheiser is on Monday Night Football still? He doesn't do play-by-play. He doesn't do color commentary. He just states to obvious every once in a while like people who watch football have no idea what any of the rules of the game mean. Would someone fire this idiot?

uh his latest alltime crap thing he said was when the QB passed to a player named Jarett. "I guess he went to jarret" ha ha BARF. the other two dudes moaned and moved on ignoring his snarky attempt at a joke

Kornheiser was at his best when he was writing columns; it is a shame that he has stopped doing it. PTI is very good, too. His football commentary is embarrassing, but I'm sure they're paying him very good money, and I think that's all he cares about.

I don't know if I agree with you guys. Maybe you just don't like his New York/Jewish accent? I'd take him over Joe Theismann any day, though.

I didn't care for Joe Theismann, either. But at least he sounded like he knew what he was talking about. Kornheiser says such blindingly stupid stuff. For instance, he will point out that some people in Green Bay might be upset if the Jets make the play-offs. No fucking DUH!

My problem with Theismann is that he always ended up talking about himself. If a QB was having a good night, he started comparing the guy to how he was in his heyday. Theismann is a bitter asshole who blames everyone for not being a Hall of Famer except himself. He's the one who chose to waste most of his career in the CFL.

Theismann was a real dick to me one time when all I said to him was "hello" as I passed his table at a restaurant (he told me to "keep walking", which I already was. I seriously just said "hey, joe!" and had to go too badly to even think about stopping for anything else)... I appreciate the memories from my childhood but he needs to lighten the fuck up.

No, I think it was that restaurant that used to be next to macy's at tyson's corner. I forget the name but it was sorta upscale.

The kind of place you had to go to once....just once. No wonder it's no longer in business at Tyson's. After eating there one time, I would just pop into the gift shop with the kids for free.

Seriously, I hate it when people talk out of their ass while indicating they are some sort of expert. I believe it is called know-it-allism. It is like saying Theismann played most of his career in the CFL when the fact is that in a 14 year career, he spent only 3 in the CFL (hardly qualifying as "most").

I didn't say he spent most of his career in the CFL. I said he chose to waste most of his career in the CFL. There is a difference. Out of his 14 years, he only spent 7 as a starter in the NFL because of his disastrous decision to play in Canada even though he had been drafted by the Dolphins.

You have to read hard to make the distinction, but I get it now. You are saying that the majority of the time he spent in the cfl was wasted. At first I also didn't understand that you do in fact know he was only there a relatively short time.

Didn't he also spend a lot of time backing up due to the steve young scenario? Being signed to team that already had good qb's?

Oh yea, my other fav fact about Joe's arrogance is that his last name WAS pronounced "theez-man" before he was famous. He changed the pronunciation so it rhymed with "Heisman". What a dork.

In your mind their might be a difference. Either you don't know what you are talking about or you aren't very succesful at putting ideas and thoughts into words. Good luck with that. But, back to your original point, I think Theismann is bitter because LT ended his career in a gruesome fashion. He is more well known for the hit than winning a Super Bowl or being named NFL MVP.

Here's the summary of his career highlight:

"First and ten, Riggins, flea flicker back to Theismann, Theismann's in a lot of trouble. And it was Lawrence Taylor who...slammed Theismann to the ground at the 42 yard line. The blitz was on, that's not necessarily a good play to have called and quickly Lawrence Taylor is up, saying Theismann is hurt. And I don't believe Lawrence Taylor would have reacted that way unless Theismann, is really hurt... He slammed him, to the natural surface here... The blitz was on, that is not a good call to have with the blitz on... Theismann has no chance at all to get downfield and let's take one more look at it with our reverse angle camera. He's looking deep and he knows he's in trouble. Lawrence Taylor number 56 right there. Carson is number 53. But it's Taylor, over Carson (at this time the leg is shown). And you can see the uh, right knee, the right foot. And I knew that something was uh... really bad when Lawrence Taylor leaped to his feet, and beckoned over to the Redskins bench; get your medical team in here quickly."

J/K...Theismann is a dick, but I like it better when DC/Redskin dicks are on TV versus other cities' dicks.

What I was trying to say is that by joining the CFL, Theismann wasted most of his career.

I'll admit it didn't come out right. My point is that Theismann wasted most of his career by deciding to play in the CFL instead of sticking it out in Miami.

then I have to go back in the "doesn't make sense" club. He was NFL MVP, won a super bowl, went to another, two pro bowls, all the major skins qb records. I cannot agree he wasted his NFL career no matter what the cfl had to do with anything.

Though, I admit an egomaniac like joe might see it that way, if he sees the hall of fame as the be-all end-all of playing in the pros.

I think the "upscale" place by Macy's may have been "America". It had wooden floors, white tablecloths, and a wall of glass so you could look inside at the people eating. For a while, they also had swing dancing at night.

He's not in the Hall of Fame because his time with the CFL set him back. If he had been a starter for 10 years +, he would be in Canton right now.

oooh hey I vaguely remember that place! Yeah my older sister did the whole swing dancing thing there AND when i was a little Kid I ran up to the STAR window and put my lips on the glass and blew my cheeks out. The boy and girl with thier parents sitting inside thought it was funny but my dad grabbed me by the collar and whooped my ass in the nearest parking lot.

even most experts agree that very sparse corporal punishment up to a certain age is ok. fucking new age losers have made it seem like a crime, but VA recognizes the right of a parent to use that sort of discipline. I believe the standard of harm is that it cannot leave a mark or do internal damage.

My whole premise is that he is bitter that he is not in the Hall of Fame. I didn't just throw that in there at the last minute. I'm not saying Theismann wasn't a great QB. I'm saying he is pissed off he is not in the Hall of Fame, but he doesn't ever blame his own poor decision-making for that fact. It's always something about life being unfair...blah, blah, blah...

I can't stand most parents these days. You can't fucking discipline your kid and then they bitch when your kid is acting like an asshole. I have no problem giving my kids' a smack on the ass every now and then. I was totally against it until I had kids. It's not so much the smack itself but the threat of the smack. Once you have that, you have a deterrent. For instance, when your kid starts acting up in the mall, you can't do a fucking time out then and there. So you lean over and whisper in the kid's ear, "Stop it now or when we get out to the car I'm going to smack your ass!"

Makes a huge difference.

MNF crew is just lame. Close call? Think you'll see a replay? Nah, we're going to commercial. Unless it's the Cowboys getting a bad call. Then you can count on seeing it over and over and over. And bring a hankie cause there will be a big bad boo-hoo-fest in the booth. Can em all. Start with Kornheiser.

Jaws isn't bad, but he probably doesn't offer up enough color commentary. Maybe as not to offend Kornheiser's delicate sensitivities. Tirico is fine, but boring.

If the Powers-That-Be at ESPN were sharp, they would drop the current line-up and pick up Joe Buck and Troy Aikman from Fox, and maybe add someone like Shannon Sharp or Deion Sanders for some color commentary.

Theezman was not a bad QB, but if he had played for anyone but the Skins, I would have hated him. Kind of like Homo with the Cowboys.

Yes Theezman is an arrogant buffon who it seems every 7-10 years comes out and says, yes, I was an arrogant buffon but now I have changed. Has anyone else ever noticed this? I know he has done it at least 3 times.

I know someone who spent some time hanging out with Theismann in college before he became well known. My friend says he was an insufferable ass then. He may have softened a bit, but in the end an ass is still an ass.
