rat tails are longer and thicker, their head is shaped differently, and rats grow to be a lot bigger.

Rats teeth are ridiculously strong and durable. I think the top mullars keep growing even after they are grinded away. In cities, I believe rats literally can chew holes through bricks so I am not surprised they could fuck up a snake.
