Steve Pearce: Outrage when his shutdown vote closes WWII Memorial, Not a peep when his vote against unemployment cancels benefits for 2,600 NM Vets
Posted by: TeaBaggins ()

New Mexico’s lone Tea Party congressman, Steve Pearce, was outraged when his votes to shutdown the government resulted in the closing of the WWII Memorial in Washington, DC. He fired off a nasty statement blaming President Obama for turning away veterans from their memorial that he voted to defund.

STEVE PEARCE CUTS OFF VETERANS BENEFITS 9.49.37 AMFast forward a few months and Pearce has hit veterans again, this time in their own pocketbooks but he’s not expressing any outrage over their suffering.

On January 1, an estimated 1.3 million Americans lost unemployment benefits thanks to a Tea Party-led effort to cut off the long-term unemployed (generally looking for work 6 months or longer) from emergency benefits. At least 5,400 New Mexican families were immediately affected, and at least twice that could find their current benefits expiring in the coming months.

But among those losing benefits are veterans, including many returning post-9/11 combat veterans, whose benefits expired as well.

A bi-partisan Congressional committee reports that New Mexico has 85,000 veterans in the state workforce – 20,000 of those veterans of post 9/11 conflicts. 3.1% of veterans are estimated to be among the long-term unemployed (looking for work for 6 months or greater) (US Senate Joint Economic Committee Report, May 2013)
A little ‘back of the envelope’ math tells us that the Republican-led cancellation of long-term unemployment assistance for Americans looking for work in the economy they screwed up impacted 2,635 New Mexico veterans actively looking for work among the 5,400 families who lost their sole means of support on January 1 – including 620 post-9/11 returning combat veterans.

Anybody that took elementary school government knows that the executive branch controls all the national parks. The Whitehouse, Hussein Obama, closed down every single National park unnecessarily including the WWII memorial. Not only that, the fascists barricaded them and hung premade signs because they had planned this in advance. National parks belong to the citizens NOT the federal government.

Damn libtards. Try reading a book.

Gotta admit, I for one have never even heard of a course in how to govern an elementary school!

Which book would you suggest? Perhaps 'Green Eggs and Ham', the all-time favorite of that rock star of of the right, Teddy Capt. Canuck Cruz?

Illiterate buffoon!

And you would be completely wrong. Stop reading all those crazy conservative whack sites.

The shutdown provided no money for park services or employees. It had nothing to do with Obama. Congress(mainly republicans in the House) decided to shutdown federal government services to stop Obamacare.

The smack-down took place at a hearing last week before the House Subcommittee on Public Lands and Environmental Regulation, which weighed in on a new bill introduced by Rep. Chris Stewart (R-Utah) in October. The Provide Access and Retain Continuity (PARC) Act, which has 17 Republican co-sponsors, would allow states to keep national parks operating in the event of another shutdown and would make them eligible for reimbursement by the federal government. (During the shutdown, six states entered into a similar agreement.) Right now, the government is only funded until January 15, meaning that Republicans could potentially pull the same shenanigans all over again in 2014. Stewart tells Mother Jones, "This bill is designed to provide some safeguards to local communities that rely heavily on access to public lands in the event that a shutdown does occur."

According to a National Park Service spokesman, more than 11 million people were unable to visit parks during the shutdown, and the park service lost about $7 million in park entry fees. The Park Service also estimates that communities within 60 miles of a national park suffered a collective negative economic impact of $76 million for each day of the shutdown.

No dumbass it had everything to do with the White House trying to make it hurt and make it visible. Its an idea they stole from Nixon. They were shutting down things that cost no money to run, paying for officers to watch over places with no staff ect. They were spending money to make sure something was closed including far away parking lots at mount vernon and trails ect.

Im sorry that seems to go over your head and is to hard for you to comprehend, numerous emails were caught with those instructions. More was spent "shutting them down" then keeping them open. Funny though how their golf course on a national park stayed fully staffed and functional.

Be we know Obama is your messiah he can do no wrong.

Let me make it very simple.

An average park employee is paid 45,000 a year.

Congress approves 0 federal dollars for park spending.

How many park employees can you employ to keep parks open? How many services can be paid for?

ZERO, you conservatard mathless waste.

I'm not surprised that once again a conservative has no good answer and goes off topic.

I already addressed your bullshit in my previous post about places being shut down that had no staff/was privately run and a park police officer was paid to sit outside and monitor.

If you werent trying to read with your ears you would have seen that

Those vets told the slimey Republicans to stay the fuck away from them at one point.

They told them to stop trying to politicize them. That didn't stop those grimey bastards though. It was disgusting to watch.

"Federal parks" require money for up keep and security.

That's the definition of a "federal park."

There were numerous example of "federal parks" that were closed that go no federal money or had no federal staff or cost more to have closed paying police overtime.

Its not rocket science.

"FEDERAL PARK" Yes, federal shutdowns are a complete waste of money on security. The money spent to close the federal building, add extra security to federal assets and cancel all usernames and passwords is complete bullshit.

Still that's what republicans wanted was a federal shutdown unless Obamacare was repealed. Republicans CLEARLY said that.

Things were unnecessarily closed to make it visible, only the most partisan of hacks still deny that.

Good for republicans about time they did something to try and stop Obamacare. Complete disaster so far and its only going to get worse. Funny though how Obama went ahead and delayed everything anyway which is what the GOP offered as a compromise, looks like they were right after all. Its a shame they didnt hold their ground and gave in.
