Working-age military retirees younger than 62?

Guess what!?! Congress just said F U in new 2 year budget deal

You are to receive less of a pensions under the legislation. They would see a decrease, phased in over the next two years, to the calculation of their cost-of-living adjustment, equal to inflation minus 1 percent.

Thank you for your service....now be poor.

This is just the start. They will hit the federal workers and military retirees first. Then they will come after active duty. Active duty have gotten huge pay raises lately. An O-3 makes 5500/month not counting housing, free health care, and all the other bennies. Time to stop sucking at the govt teat.

Sad stuff. Spreading the money around, but hurting those who need it most. Our fighting military is getting stiffed, yet massive increases of people using SNAP cards can sit on their azz, do nothing, and still live comfortably.

Something is wrong with America. Terribly wrong.

Gimme a small break. The military has become the biggest bunch of spoiled brats ever. They think so much is owed to them for doing the job they SIGNED UP to do. They get their fat pay checks and it's all tax free half the time, Not to mention all kinds of other free bennies like sports tickets, care packages, 10% discount at Home Depot and Lowes all because 30,000 of 1.5 million are in Aghanistan?

You are nuts. What fat paychecks are you talking about? My "net" was $600 a month -- hardly enough to live a lavish lifestyle. That amount include BAS, so I could buy my own food instead of having to eat in the dining hall for every meal.

You? An amrchair quarterback that has no respect for the military and has never done anything real to serve their country or protect the freedoms of America.

Not sure where you're thinking that the paychecks are tax free. I had to pay taxes every year - and file tax returns.

Some would claim their residency in a state that didn't have income taxes, but that was about the only break that one could get. The exchanges on base? Not nearly as competitive in pricing compared to the outside shopping opportunities. The commissary? A bit better with respect to prices of food. On base entertainment? Very limited and scaled back big time. MWR - Morale, Welfare and Recreation barely exists anymore. Going off base, is not always an option for the soldiers. There are times where it could be dangerous, or they are on alert and can't leave the bass.

You should find another source for your information as it appears you're using flawed information.

Hey ass head, the military hasn't defended any freedoms since World War II. Not one. Not a single freedom defended since then. Zero. Just because you're dumb enough to sign up to possibly get your balls blown off doesn't mean you're defending freedoms, Captain America. You defend Jack and Shit....and Shit just left town.

Exactly this, but this is the liberal dream. Gut the military, increase welfare, which in the end means they have a stronger voting base for years to come.

It really is pathetic when you can live a more lavish lifestyle on welfare than you can fighting for your country.

I had you pegged right the first time. You're just an armchair quarterback who thinks they are a know-it-all. From your description of our military and believing that they have so many entitlements only speaks volumes of your character. I'm not sure about your age, but if this had been the Vietnam era, something tells me that your sorry ass would have been hustling itself north rather quickly so you could cross the Canadian border because you're too much of a pussy to stand up and fight.

What a tool you are.

You people really do bleed privilege. That is Sad Stuff. I've worked with retired O5/O6's for decades. They are some of the wealthiest people I know. We in the real world have had to deal with huge increases in health care costs and the elimination or freeze of pension plans. After working for the some company for 25 years I had my pension frozen. I will now only get 60% of what I would have at 62. Poor baby - they are eliminating the rate of increase in your pension. Private sector pension don't even get any cost of living increases.

Whine on!!

And so, my fellow Americans: ask not what your country can do for you — ask what you can do for your country.

At the age of 18 everyone should be required to do a 2 year stint in the mil. You fucktards would probably consider that socialist though. It'd give these young punks something to do, and provide some much needed discipline to our decaying society. It'd end recruitment problems also. You can all suck me!

Scroll down to El Salvadore and you'll understand why there are so many illegals in this country from there.

Sounds good but I can't go along with drafting liberals. All they'd do is bitch constantly and fuck each other in the ass at every corner. I wouldn't want them on my flanks in a firefight.

Are you always this stupid?

The reason we are being overrun with illegals from El Salvadore is because they ran HERE to evade the mandatory service requirement.

Otherwise, the point being that if we had a mandatory service here, most of the appropropriate aged pussies would have their parents send them to Canada for a vacation.

yeah, and the illegals leave too... because they do not want to serve, nor do they want their "legally" born children to serve, are you that stupid? if the libs leave, then good riddance. reading comprehension, learn it.

The negroes and illegal spics would find away out of it. Nice thought, but it would't work.

The US runs death squads in El Salvador and Honduras. San Pedro is supposed to be the most dangerous place on earth.

Also, NAFTA brought government-subsidized US agricultural products to Latin America and forced the small farms out of business.

Retired 05/06's don't become wealthy on military pay or retirement. It's because they have enough sense to invest along the way. Some people just don't get it.

Let's see you get 50% of your pay for life with cost of living increases at 43 with practically free health care. You then take a contractor position for 100K in old boy DOD network. Next you jump to a GS-14/15 job a year or 2 later for 120K+. Investing my ass. There is no group of people that suck on the taxpayer teat more than retired military officers. It's a lifelong profession.

No shit!! These fuckers whine, kick and bitch. My biggest problem is that nobody explained this system to me when I was young.
Then again, when I was young I would have said no fucking way, I don't want to be Known as a fucking Leach.
That shit does not matter to me anymore, Just wish I would have jumped on the gravy train instead of being honest and working hard.

The US fights against Communist influences in Latin America. Even though the Soviet Union's influence and the Domino Effect are long gone, Latin America is still ripe with Marxist elements that work to overthrow the governments.

Nobody leads the Communist lifestyle more than the military. Free healthcare, discounted groceries, cigarettes and booze, they pay you MORE if you get married, and EVEN more if you have kids. What other job does that? TO each according to need, said Karl Mars. Free Housing. Extra money if you live in a high cost area. Extra money to travel. It's true communism.

You left out the part where they have to do that because their pay is so shitty to being with. Most of the guys getting shot at are making less than 30k a year.

The skills a lot of the jobs have would translate to 6 figure jobs easily. You think guys running nuclear reactors are making 50-80k like in the Navy or Pilots are making under 100k like fighter pilots, think again.

Please try and keep up. Pilots are staying in the military these days because the airlines are paying so bad. Guys getting shot at? What you mean the 30,000 in Afghanistan? What about the other 1 million who sexually abuse each other, get more vacation days than anybody, and get free days off for being sick with no loss of pay all nice and safe right here in the USA. All Americans should get the deal they have. Oh, and their pay? Most Americans spent a third of their pay on housing, in the military, it's free. Worlds biggest freeloaders.

You should seriously get a clue what youre talking about before posting. We get it they military turned you down and youre bitter. Maybe your wife left you for one of them I dont know where the hate is coming from, but very little of what you posted was factually accurate.

Anyone whose been in the military, hell just been around it, knows how full of shit you are. Carry on keyboard warrior

Wow! Just imagine if everyone was as smart as this poster and didn't join the military and we could just rely on the skills of President Obama, Secretaries of State Hillary Clinton and John Kerry to keep us from being invaded.

It's like a fire department, very expensive to maintain and who actually needs one? Oh yeah until your house is on fire.

It's unfortunate that your only exposure to the military has been driving by the Pentagon but mine has been quite different. A retired 05/06 who can jump from contractor to GS it's because they've met the education/experience requirements. You don't gain those sitting on your ass in the military. Look beyond the Pentagon pencil pushers into the real military and I doubt if you could cut it. You think everybody in the military who isn't in The Sandbox is stationed in a Honolulu country club? Check this list out.

http://www.goarmy.com/about/post-locations.html

This is only the Army. I've known Navy who have spent months on end in submarines
and others who have been posted in places like Shemya, Alaska
which is nothing but a rock in the Aleutians. BTW, if you scroll down the
list of assignments on the link you'll also realize a lot of these places are
"unaccompanied" status which means you leave your wife and kids somewhere
stateside. Your problem to deal with. BTW, once you raise your right hand you now
have a 24/7 job. There's no overtime, holiday pay, or guarantee that you
can take annual leave when you want.

For your information, I worked at the Pentagon and its satellite offices for way longer then you have been in the military. I have first hand experience what goes on there. Way more than you. The statement "they've met the education/experience requirements" is total BS. Granted they have masters degrees (financed by taxpayer dollars). The GS jobs they get are not open to competition from the outside world. They are posted one day, filled, and taken down the next.
