I think it's hard to say that Jesse won... poor son of a gun... went through a lot... lost a lot of people he cared about.

Definitely Walter won...

Winner?

Walt died in a warped sense of peace, after exacting revenge upon his former colleagues, but what did he win beyond that?

He died without his family's love and devoid of a soul... empty, amoral, a sociopath.

Jesse lost everything except his soul. That's a win, I suppose.

I'm going to miss this show. I loved it.

Everything that happened to Walt in his life was a direct result of his meticulously planned actions. Everything, except for two casualties, went according to plan...

Sure, I'm sure he'd have liked that he went out with his family's love... but I think the fact that he was able to provide for them (whether they liked it or not) without having to take credit shows a sort of character development. He was soulless.... I think he'd been searching for it throughout the series... and I think he found it, just before he died.

Jesse had no say in anything that happened to him... Despite his best efforts... he lost everything he cared about... He left with his soul intact, although battered... Walt gets his little happy ending... he dies... his family is taken care of... Game over... but Jesse... what does Jesse do now? What has he got? His story is just beginning...

no, but I'm not trolling either. yes I posted that partly to get your goat, but I also believe The Sopranos had a great ending...one of the best, probably the best, of any serialized television drama. I was perfectly happy with Breaking Bad's ending. Good ending for that show....though I thought it felt just a little rushed, probably because of the commercial factor. Too bad the show wasn't on HBO.

But The Sopranos ending was an ending that really challenged the viewer, and didn't spoonfeed him the answers....some people got angry with that....but that's the type of show it was. I loved it.

BB's ending was really good. I always felt it's just too damn bad HBO passed on this show. Think of how much better it could've been on pay cable. Not the language or sex...not even that....I mean the commercials. I HATE HATE HATE that great shows like BB have to deal with shitty commercials every five minutes.

Good show.

Maybe, but it was convenient at that point. He didn't need Jesse any longer and didn't view him as a threat to his family, so he could save him and his soul at the same time.

And might end in a psych ward...

Jesse pained me. I wanted to wrap my arms around him and take him home. (in a nice way)

Yes.

I don't have a problem with not being spoonfed... In some situations, it is the best solution.... but I think it's been relied upon way too heavily... The ambiguous conclusion, I mean... Somewhere along the line, it became popular to be ambiguous with your ending... to "leave the audience questioning"... If you're going that way, you better make sure it is relevant with your story... THere are plenty of examples where the ambiguous ending is tastefully done... but there are tons more of stupid assholes leaving the audience hanging just because it's the new black.

When the audience invests their time in hearing your story... they want a fucking conclusion... they want a "yes or no"... I'm relieved that Breaking Bad actually manned up and fed us the ending... they resisted the urge to be trendy... There couldn't have been a better ending for the show... (although, I'm still not sure how Walt caught that bullet)... I mean... we all knew Walt was dead at the beginning of this season..

THere's DVR... there's internet downloads... there are options for avoiding commercials...

Perfect ending. The length of the show was just right. What more could they have possibly done? He broke bad as deep as one could taking almost a complete 180 except in terms of still loving his family which never changed.

Walt redeemed his heart somewhat by clearly trying to stop Hank's murder and by saving Jesse in the end.

The last song, Baby Blue by Badfinger, last night was the most perfect use of a song in a TV show or movie of all time. Amazing.

YES

Deadwood WAS better. Better than both Breaking Bad and The Sopranos. Not better than The Wire, but close. It's a real shame it only got three seasons. Didn't get to finish the story. And then the horse racing show by Deadwood's creators was really good but they killed a few horses making it, so a bunch of sissies had it cancelled. Deadwood, second best TV drama ever.

The Sopranos ending in particular though. That was really, really good. It's the best way that show could have ended. It's not about whether Tony got shot in that last scene or not...the point was, for the rest of his life, he'll be looking over his shoulder and never feel safe. Why did people not get this?

no. even with DVR, it's a disruptive experience. it's not the show's fault, it was passed on by HBO and Showtime where it would've been commercial free. because it was picked up by a basic cable channel with commercials, the show was built to accommodate the commercial break format. it works well for cliffhangers between commercials, but then you have to sit through commercials. if you record it and skip through the commercials, now you have a tense moment that ends suddenly and then more suddenly shifts tone...because it was made to be viewed after you catch your breath, after five minutes of commercials. it's almost more disruptive to the pace of the show to watch it without commercials. it's a no win situation.

this is why commercial tv stinks. an episode of The Sopranos plays out like a movie...Breaking Bad, as good as it is, is built around the commercial format, so it takes something away when you watch it commercial free. it's not a movie-quality experience for that reason alone. Sopranos, The Wire, Deadwood all are. too bad Breaking Bad didn't get picked up by pay cable.
