Healthcare.gov is really coming together!
Posted by: middle class ass ()
Date: November 06, 2013 08:05PM

I am a local government employee and it looks like I will be able to get better insurance via healthcare.gov at a savings of $103.77 per month. I had trouble with the website at first but it's working like a champ now. It's nice to see the little guy get a break every now and then.

I'm so glad it's called Obamacare. That will so become the new euphemism for a plan/project that's gone horribly wrong.

Looks like a good deal for my family also. Still trying to figure weather the silver or the bronze would be better. Bronze premiums are lower but out of pocket costs are higher if you do get sick. Even with the Bronze the maximum out of pocket costs have you covered beyond the 2500 per person or 5000 per family max.
I think if you are the average Fairfax county resident who has at least 50 grand in short term savings the bronze plan would be fine. The silver plan will do better by the poorer people.

Ypu will continue to see afforability and access to health care. As its more widely adopted and entrenched the political dynamics will shift. You see the Republican hysteria is with good reason. They aren't concerned with its failure. They wish for it to fail. They're terrified with its potential success. A sad state of affairs it is.

If it takes hold and is deemed a success for many Americans. They're fucked. They have invested so much political capital that it will have indefinite political reprecussions and may even divide the Republican party.

We got a taste of this, just a taste during the shut down over the ACA. They were heavily divided over the political dividends or losses in opposition to the ACA. They see themselves on the wrong side of history once again. The only side of history they seem capable of. The side of history they may soon become permenantly destined to.

The plan I am looking at looks like a good deal.

All of you pretender idiots forget that other people can see all of the plans. lol

In VA, unless you're getting subsidies, there are virtually no "good deals." All of the plans are substantially more expensive than what you could get this year in most cases with a higher level of coverage. Sorry, that's just the fact.

If you're going to claim that a plan is a "great deal," then POST THE DETAILS AND COSTS FOR THE SPECIFIC PLAN.

Otherwise, anyone reading can safely assume that you're full of shit.

No fucking way the plan is better. then again, My job pays for my insurance, for now, so I don't have to deal with this yet.

I really don't see how this "obamacare" helps the working class. It looks like the freeloaders are the only people loving it.

All you have to do at ehealth.com is plug in 2013 and 2014 on separate tries for start dates. The plan costs are much higher in 2014.

Yep. You can easily toggle the start year and directly see the effect on the costs for roughly equivalent plans.

I work for the state of Maryland and it looks like I can get better coverage through the new plan and save about 30 bucks per pay period. I am going to wait a little while to see how it works out for other folks first.

No, you probably can't. State of MD employee rates are here:

http://dbm.maryland.gov/benefits/Documents/Employee%20Retiree%20Rate%20Sheet.pdf

You will not match the rates above on their exchange for equivalent circumstances and coverage (other than possibly in some unique unusual circumstances). The lowest rates on the exchange for roughly equal plans are much higher. You especially will not if you are beyond a relatively young age. Why would anyone even want to when you have good employer-provided benefits?

for the bronze but not the silver.

BTW No one has had their personal information stolen through healthcare.gov. The stories about the security risks were just another round of right wing bullshit.

You don't need to go through healthcare.gov if you don't qualify for the premium subsidy. Kaiser has a premium subsidy calculator.

That's OK for rough estimates but you have to be somewhat careful relying on it. For example, the rates are based on the second lowest Silver-level plan. For VA, that's a "BlueChoice HSA Silver $1,300" plan which, while it has OK coverage generally (~20% for most things), it provides zero out-of-network benefits other than for emergency room services at 80%.

No, it's not "right-wing bullshit." By their own admission, they've not completed the required security audits of the system.

Quote

CBS News analysis found that the deadline for final security plans slipped three times from May 6 to July 16. Security assessments to be finished June 7 slid to August 16 and then August 23. The final, required top-to-bottom security tests never got done.

The House Oversight Committee released an Obama administration memo that shows four days before the launch, the government took an unusual step. It granted itself a waiver to launch the website with "a level of uncertainty ... deemed as a high (security) risk."

Whether anyone is known to have had their information stolen really isn't the appropriate metric for such things.

I am going to sign up for the silver plan even though it will cost me a little bit more than my employers plan. I think the greatest thing about this national plan is that it will make it easier for a family man to change jobs. I would have done things regarding my career much differently over the past 14 years if I was not worried about my family losing health care coverage or having to pay out the ass on the COBRA plan. The national health care plan is going to help lots of Americans get better jobs. Those same Americans will make more money and pay more taxes. Everybody wins.

Except that they aren't national plans.

They still are state-based and limited to state/regional networks (other than for limited emergency services) and plans/coverage/rates vary by state and typically aren't transferable. If you change areas, then in most cases you'd have to drop and pick up a new plan at whatever cost/coverage. Don't know how that works after 'open season' closes.

Exactly what plan would that be?

Fact is that there are no 'national health plans.' There are various health insurance plans which are offered by insurance companies on a state basis and administered by state insurance commissions. That's why, for example, there are individual state exchanges. The Federal exchange still functions on a state basis, i.e., you cannot buy a 'national plan'; rather, it simply acts as a central clearinghouse for the individual state plans for those states not operating their own exchange.

In my case changing jobs would not mean moving to a different city. The new healthcare plan is going to help far more people than it hurts.

I got a great deal for a friend that didn't have healthcare. Hers is $75 a month.

Nope, it's not. Not in VA without substantial subsidies anyway. The difference of which is just paid by somebody else.

It's already 'hurt' more people than it's helped and will continue to. What don't you understand about it being a way to get lots of people to pay more to cover the costs of a relative few? It's a subsidy scheme. That's the whole basis for the program.

Doesn't matter whether you're moving or not, there aren't any 'national plans' as was stated. Individual plans worked the same way before and after. In fact, if you'd wanted to then you could have purchased an individual plan prior to that worked exactly the same way. And at less cost for most people.

I would think that most people understand that. And it is an absolutely wonderful way to go about it. Yes it will cost most of us a little bit more money out of our pockets but it will benefit us all in ways that are priceless. That is why we voted it into law. If you are not happy with the law you should try to change it but we all know that will never happen because people who think like you are in the minority and your numbers are fewer each day. I wish you all the best Sir.

some are paying over $9000 a year for their family plans. Hundreds of thousands at least. Most are middle class or small business owners who make less than $200K a year. That might be "a little bit more" to punks like you, but for most of us, that's just another example of democrats raping the middle class to subsidize the poor while the rich laugh and use $100 bills to wipe their asses.

Have you been listening to Beck or Limbo? Poor little ignorant one. I still wish you all the best though.

It's not a "little bit more" for most. It's a lot bit more. Mine will about double as a result of the increased required scope of the policies and the deductible approach employed. They designed this as a way to deliver health care plan to lower-income people, not as insurance; therefore, the costs are up substantially for the vast majority.

Actually, the numbers opposed to it are high, have remained high, and will increase greatly as the changes start to hit the employer-provided side. You've just seen the tip of the iceberg so far. Which is why even Democratic candidates up for election are hiding from being seen with Obama.

None of which changes that there aren't 'national plans' and you could have done exactly the same thing as far as buying an individual plan if you wanted to change jobs prior to Obamacare. At a lower cost for most working people.

Fact is that Obamacare has raised the cost of insurance for most and reduced the number of insured in order to provide subsidized insurance to a very few. We could have done the same thing much more directly, effectively, and far more cheaply and without affecting everyone else.

A greatly reduced the choice in health care providers. Less than half of the physicians are part of the new plans. Like Medicare, you won't be able to find doctors to take your new Obamacare insurance. It's pathetic that fools still defend this monstrosity.

I picked up the silver plan and my wife has used it twice already. It was flawless. Makes me proud to be an American who voted for Mr. Obama.
