Not arguing the validity of the article, the source, your stories, the ACA or anything else.

Simply sharing because these insurance companies are some shady ass mofos & I wouldn't want anyone, regardless of stance, to get screwed by an insurance company trying to railroad them into a more expensive plan.

Trust, health insurance companies have EVERYTHING at stake and will be trying anything they can to sway public opinion against anything that threatens to eat into their margins, including screwing their customers.

Good luck and I hope we all find ourselves better off 5 years down the road.

Premiums go up when insurance companies are required to give coverage they normally would not offer. Such as pap smears for men and prostate exams for women.

What I've heard is that insurance companies are offering one of their more expensive plans without mentioning they have to offer bronze plans. In all likelihood, all would cost more than their current coverage but the sticker shock would be lessened by presenting the lowest priced plan as an option.

First of all, "talkingpointsmemo"?

Sorry, not going to click.

Insurance companies do not make money by cancelling policies, particularly those from healthy, non-smoking males like myself with NO medical problems. I see a doctor every 2 to 3 years. The insurance companies should want to keep my money coming in.

Insurance companies "shady mofos"? Yes.

Is the Obama administration shady mofos? Let's talk when you can admit the truth.

What they typically offer is a close to equivalent plan.

Bronze plans are relatively high coinsurance at 60/40. Not many people who have individual insurance have that low of coverage. Most current plans are a higher coverage ratio but with a higher deductible. So you'd rarely have an existing plan which would translate directly to a Bronze-level plan.

They also greatly reduced the out-of-pocket caps. Once the deductible is met on the Bronze plan, there's very little room left before the insurer covers all costs.

That's over and above the deductible. You start counting once the deductible is met, not taking the difference over the deductible. e.g., $5,000 + $6,350, not $6,350 - $5,000.

Bronze plans dont cover drugs either. Theres no limit to how much you can spend on those.

There is no reason anyway should ever have a Bronze plan. Youre paying 2kish a year for 10k+ out of pocket liabilities.

Obamacare plans really have shifted the cost of healthcare onto the individual as theres a substantial amount they have to pay before plans kick in.
