People who say I should vote for McAuliffe if I didn't like McDonnell's gift scandal

Some of the stuff that has been clogging up my mailbox boils down to the following:
"I Don't like McDonnell's gift acceptance policy so I will vote for Terry McAuliffe to prevent that from happening again"

Terry insn't particularly well known for his ethical decision-making. I feel like we should anticipate MORE of these types of unethical situations if McAuliffe is elected. Tell me how I am wrong.
