4000 dollars transmission replacement!
Posted by: Gordorski ()
Date: September 21, 2013 09:11AM

What on earth is up with repair costs in the area? I just picked up my Daewoo Lanos, and apparently a transmission replacement is $4000. The proprietor explained labor, parts, plus a free cleaning are the reason for the cost. I'm not sure but I think I got ripped off as the estimate was $3000.

An automobile's transmission is up there with the axelrods and engine internals as the most expensive parts of the car. That is typical of a full service transmission swap. There is no "free" cleaning. It's included in the price. That is sales language.

Okay I see some points here that make sense, including sales speak. I know my car is rare also and maybe cleaning was a bit more expensive than the typical car. Stressed out feel like my intestines are going to explode

Hopefully, you didn't go to the dealership to have the work done. Oh wait ... if you had done that, the price would have been $5,500.

Learn some mechanical skills and do your own work. Don't let these jagoffs continue to rip you off.

Your user name says it all, you have no credibility with cars. You drive the same shit filled car that Clint Eastwood did. That car is probably like a Dons John, open the doors and let the floodgates of feces roll out.

The Lanos is more rare, stylish, and desirable. Grand Torinos are just another car.

No not the dealer, as I'm banned from the property there, and don't want to get in trouble with the police or health department.

Clint may have driven a '72 Ford G.T.S. in the film but, I actually mined the iron and carbon out of the earth that was forged to make my car's bodywork. Also, Clint's car had a slushbox whereas my car has a man's transmission.

We know you're butthurt about your Lanos. We know. We ALL know. We'd all be butthurt, too. So, I'll tell you what...

Why don't you go back down to your room...errrrrrrrrrrr, I mean your parents basement? Don't worry, Mommy will be down soon to smother your genitals with marshmallow fluff while Daddy plays hide-the-nine-iron in your ass and then watches you lick your own shit off the end of it. Then you can all watch "My Little Pony" together...

New tranny, minus the core is going to be close to $2000. This is pretty much true for any transmission. If you start going with better parts inside the tranny the price goes up some, but the big cost is labor to rebuild/assemble.

After that, cost to install a transmission is up there as well. Front wheel drive is a pain and takes more labor.

I probably wouldn't have bothered on this car unless you have some special attachment to it.

It cost me 2700 dollars for a rebuilt Ford Taurus transmission in 2002. 4000 dollars in 2013 doesn't seem surprising.

Stabitha it is not a communist car, its vintage rare, and my friends are jealous. This Daewoo puts any similarity equipped Cadillacs to shame. To the other mature posters I appreciate your insight, immature ones bite my wrinkled stinky bowels.

To Gran Torino I am well over fifty so sorry I have my own shit filled residence. The Gran Torino isn't bad, but its not in the same league as the Lanos.

I hope you realize how ironic it is that you can make a statement like this, after claiming that GranTorino has "no credibility with cars." The Gran Torino Sport is widely recognized as a classic muscle car. The Daewoo is a generic asian shitbox. That's why almost nobody bothers to make aftermarket parts for it, and that's why your transmission cost you 4 grand.

Maintain your vehicle and don't go stupid with the transmission.
Auto transmissions should go 2.5k miles when properly maintained.
You stated this is a vintage rare so parts and maintenance will reflect with price.

I was told 90K easily on a rebuilt transmission,

It sounds like you want to keep the car for a long time. Otherwise, condition of engine and other major systems would be a consideration.

I kept my car for another 60-70K. Nothing wrong with the transmission. I just got tired of maintaining 3 cars.

Okay my Lanos might be a shit box, but that's medically related and not due to the car. Lots of people dig my car and all of my friends want one. Yes parts are expensive for luxury cars but I was shocked by the amount.

As for the Torino its not bad its just not as comfortable and upscale as the Lanos. Daewoo makes a prettier car, and while the Gran Torino might edge it out in a race, 9 out of 10 would prefer the Lanos.

You can only attract women with a car? No wonder you spent four grand on a transmission. A Korean car to get pussy is no way to go thru life, sonny. Maybe time to reevaluate.

No one cares. You set yourself up for the comments. You trying to justify buying a car from a defunct korean company on this forum. If you like the car then drive it until it cannot be repaired because no one else will buy it.
We all make mistakes. Deal with yours. It's okay to be a sucker until you start bragging about it.
Some women might like the car because any idiot who would buy it likes to waste money. The mechanics knew it too.
