the floor is hot lava

when you were a boy, did you ever play that game where you pretend the floor of your living room is made of hot lava, and you have to get from one end of the room to the other by jumping from couch to couch, or onto couch cushions, and if you touch the floor, you die?
did you ever go through an "Ernest" phase? I went through an "Ernest" phase, where all I watched was all the Ernest movies---Ernest Scared Stupid, Ernest Saves Christmas, Ernest Goes to Jail, etc. I also went through a "Noid" phase, believe it or not. I went through a phase where I loved everything that had to do with the Noid, from Domino's pizza. I was so crazy about the Noid that all I had on my Christmas list one year was that NES video game they made, "Yo, Noid!" Remember that game? It was a whole video game for Nintendo where you play as the Noid from the Domino's commercials. It sucked. I even drew a picture of the Noid, and I remember I got really upset when my dad threw it out. I cried and cried, until he finally went out and got it out of the trash for me. It wasn't a very good picture.
I also went through a California Raisins phase.

I went though a phase where I posted stupid stuff on a Web forum every day constantly, then got a life and got married and stuff.

I played the lava game and many different spin-offs of that game...
Did the couch cushion to safety trick...
Sometimes, in movie theaters or at school... It would be the certain colored tiles that were lava....
Like, only step on black tiles.... something like that...
I also made forts out of couch cushions and blankets... Over time, my fort crafting skills increased greatly... I turned my whole room into a fort...
Once, my friends and I made a box city in my backyard... we all slept in boxes outside... It got cold and we all decided to go inside at 4am...
I wish life was fun again... I try hard to have fun... but it never lasts long...

what about phases, Harry? Did you go through any odd or strangely age-inappropriate phases as a kid? Like, I went through a Don Rickles phase as a kid. I still love him, but it was strange for a little kid, I guess. Anything like that?

played the lava game. an old friend of mine used to have red-ish carpet in his house so it added to the lava experience.
i went through a three's company phase. i couldnt get enough of it. i often fantasized about being jack and living with two hot girls. i would fuck the shit out of chrissy (suzanne somers, not that other skank/knock off they brought in).
i remember when i was a kid i fell asleep on a pillow that was placed on the floor. i had a dream that the pillow made me fly and i always tried to duplicate that dream because it was so fucking awesome. i dont think i ever had that flying on the pillow dream again. oh and i also used to hump stuffed animals.

yeah, what ever happened to wooden playgrounds? They're all made of plastic now. When I was a boy, they were all plywood and rusty nails. And we would play this game on the swings where we would have someone push us until we got higher and higher, until we got as high as we could go, and then as the swing reached the very top, we would jump off into the gravel. You won't see that nowadays. The boys today are little pussies.

chinese plastic is cheaper than good ol american wood.

Vienna Elementary had a kick ass wooden playground. It was HUGE. Then I guess there were too many injuries and it got replaced with a smaller plastic/metal one years after I had a need for it. But even that has been gone for years now, there's nothing there now.
