Obama won Round 1
Posted by: Obama Adds To His Lead ()
Date: September 27, 2008 07:04PM

Obama scores well in round 1 and Biden will dismantle Palin next week. Bloomberg News said that this will likely widen Obama's lead from +9% to 12% by this time next week.

Intelligence and thoughtfulness prevails over status quo and senility.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------

WASHINGTON - A pair of one-night polls gave Barack Obama a clear edge over John McCain in their first presidential debate.

Fifty-one percent said Obama, the Democrat, did a better job in Friday night's faceoff while 38 percent preferred the Republican McCain, according to a CNN-Opinion Research Corp. survey of adults.

Obama was widely considered more intelligent, likable and in touch with peoples' problems, and by modest margins was seen as the stronger leader and more sincere. Most said it was McCain who spent more time attacking his opponent.

About six in 10 said each did a better job than expected. Seven in 10 said each seemed capable of being president.

In a CBS News poll of people not committed to a candidate, 39 percent said Obama won the debate, 24 percent said McCain and 37 percent called it a tie. Twice as many said Obama understands their needs than said so about McCain.

Palin withdrawing from the race is trading at 8 right now. If you made an investment of $100, you would clear more than $1,000 if she drops out.

I actually had someone tell me the other day that they couldn't wait for the Palin/Biden debates because Palin would wipe the floor with Biden.

I then gave him this incredulous look and said "Really? How so? Tell me how!" and there was some stammering and stuttering, and I said "it's okay, I realize you heard that on Fox News, and you don't really have an answer to that. I was just hoping you might get it, too, and realize there's no way she can out debate Joe Biden, no matter how much we both dislike Joe Biden."

I only got an uncomfortable laugh, but I knew he understood he was being a sycophant responding to extremist right wing hyperbole.

When McCain picked Palin and she gave the speech at the Convention, I gave her the benefit of the doubt. I thought all the talk of her being sequestered from the press was just a bunch of hype by the Republicans to lower expectations. However, between her interviews with ABC, CBS and even Sean Hannity, she has demonstrated that she really doesn't have a grasp of the issues. I don't think she is an unintelligent woman. But I do believe if you have never given a single thought to foreign affairs or macro-economics for 44 years and suddenly you have to talk authoritatively about it on a national stage, no amount of cramming will prepare you to do so very well.

She might muddle through the debate against Biden. And Biden may say something really stupid, as he is prone to do. But I think it will be apparent Palin is not qualified at all to be VP.

And don't you think it's the least bit suspicious that lots of people believe she is going to destroy Biden in the debates?

I'm a conservative, just not a neocon. I'd love to be able to vote for a republican, but we aren't given that option anymore. We are presented with these fools who claim to be republican, but are just sycophants who agree with the corporatist agenda in order to be in power.

We already suffered through that. True Republicans want to elect someone who isn't going to destroy our economy in order to create corporate welfare.

Why have we let the neocons take over? Is it just because of 9/11 and the terrorists who hate us for our freedoms?

As Sarah said to Katie

"I will have to get back to you on that."

So, did Sarah ask Katie for the best number to reach her so sher could get back to her?

Not that I am aware of.

Does sarah even know that she is running for the VP of the United States?

They thought she would do well in interviews as well. She hasn't. The only thing she has done well is give a canned speech. Considering she spent years as a TV sportscaster, she has proven she can read a teleprompter well. That doesn't make her qualified to be VP.

I agree that expectations for her are so low right now that even a muddling appearance at the debate might be seen as a success. However, as I originally contended, any gaffe she makes will also be amplified more than normal.

Thank God Obama's vast experience qualifies him to be POTUS.

Only difference between Palin and Obama, is Obama has had more time to cram, he's been doing it for a year, Palin, a month.

Assuming McSame wins...let's hope you are right. There are brighter and less bright people in the world...just look at our current president! Right now we she deserves some benifit of the doubt...but not much. Her best strategy is to stop pretending she knows everything. If given the opportunity for some self depricating humor, she should use it to defuse the concerns of her current lack of international knowledge.

It is obvious Obama has spend a lifetime thinking about these issues and how he would approach them. It is also obvious that up to a month ago, Sarah Palin didn't think of much of anything that didn't involve hockey, moose hunting and going after her ex-brother-in-law (except, maybe, for her extra-marital affairs).

That won't help her. She has dug herself into a hole. She literally needs to score a perfect 10 in the debate to start helping her image. I'm not sure she is up to that.

Unless there is a big change between the Obama vs MCcain debate and Thursday night, I'd expect the two VP's will just polish what their candidate said and say that.

Barack Obama has the same level of experience as Teddy Roosevelt and Abraham Lincoln did when they became President. On the other hand, McCain has similar experience to LBJ, Richard Nixon, Herbert Hoover and Warren G. Harding.

What's your point?

Yeah seriously. Take a look at the dumbass these stupid Republicans put in charge for the past 8 years....

Bush somehow got into Yale as a 'C' student and by some miracle, was able to "patriotically" avoid duty in Vietnam. He then went on to become a drunken, failed businessman. Does that really sound like "state governor" material? Of course not. The *only* reason Bush got anywhere in life was because of his father. That pretty much sums up the experience of our current president. If his last name weren't "Bush", he'd be some guy named George living on a ranch somewhere.

It's actually safe to say that GWB was probably the most unqualified person ever to become president- something he's made abundantly clear to the entire frickin' world. If someone as dumb and un-credentialed as Bush can become president, a guy like Obama should have a shot being king of the universe!

Oddly enough, Bush's dad was one of the most experienced and qualified people to ever get elected President. And his administration completely sucked.

I remember how Cheney's and Bush's military deferments and postings got a lot of heat from the liberal media in the elections. Interesting that Biden's 5 deferments (the LAST one is where the asthma was finally revealed - April 1968...) get little or no coverage - nor anywhere near the level of ridicule, and "in-depth" (see Dan Rather) coverage on how he went from great athlete to suffering from asthma.

Carter was right up there on the list of "experience" - wasn't he a one term governor of Georgia and a peanut farmer? Sure, command of a nuclear sub is all good and well, but he sure turned out to be a wet fart didn't he.

If I had to guess, his deferments pale in comparison to Palin's sheer ignorance (though McCain did pick her so...)

If anyone has ever seen a Joe Biden floor speech, committee hearing, or stump speech, it would be readily apparent to any medical professional that a windbag like that could NEVER have asthma.

Speaking moist flatulence, how about those markets today! It looks as if Republican House members care more about their own re-election standing than selling this bailout to their constituents.

Because of these actions, Obama now holds a double digit lead over McCain and now has the lead in Virginia.

Just as a note, the vote was not a done deal. If the Democrats are the party in control of both sides of Congress, how is it then that they could work all weekend, announce they have a deal, and then not pass the bill? Ask yourself that one.

I wrote my elected officials, did any of you here sifting the sands for grains of knowledge? I don't think the Republicans were the ones that voted against their constituents wishes my friends. The Democrats had reported they were getting calls of 100 to 1 against the bill - so I am guessing they voted the way their constituents wanted. The ones who voted to protect themselves were the 95 Democrats that voted against it... The Republicans did exactly what their constituents asked them to do. You might want to read those tea leaves a little better next time.

As far as the leads, and non-leads, and polls. The race isn't over until election day folks. I am guessing the pundits will have a lot more to say on this, and I doubt you will hear anyone say the Republicans voted against the wishes of their supporters (other than the Senate)...

That sounds like a concession speech if I've ever heard one.

McCain's smile scared me. Not just because I'm scared he'd use that patronizing grin with world leaders, but because it is truly creepy. Palin scares me more.

But since I'm tired, I don't think I'll bother to expand on my vague and superficial statements. Enjoy.
