I'm Assuming this is Illegal...
Date: December 23, 2008 12:53PM

...or at least, will be soon...

Obstruction of justice, maybe?

I have problems with Red Light cameras. But I don't think this kind of stunt is the answer.

Agggh... "Not Available on Mobile".... why do people upload YouTube vids but disable mobile access?

Anyway, there was an article on WTOP today about people tricking red light cameras in Rockville. They are printing photos of someone else's plate, taping it over their own, and then speeding thru a camera so that the poor unsuspecting person gets a ticket. Talk about assholish behavior!

I'm sure its illegal but not being an attorney or law enforcement officer
I wont try and judge its legality. Interfering with law enforcement operations?
Vandalism? I dunno. What I do know is that I LIKE the cameras. I live
near a very busy intersection that tried them a few years ago and the
results were great. Just the flash alone actually made people start obeying
the traffic light. Before that, crossing on foot was like playing Russian
Roulette. Green means go like Hell. Yellow means floor it!. Red means
well...maybe. While the cameras were operational it was actually about a
50% improvement with the flash still going off constantly. IMHO, these
self appointed "Santa's" were actually posting a threat to public safety.
On the downside of the cameras, I asked a cop what he thought of them and
he said that 90% of the people who actually challenged their tickets
were able to beat them in court. That was sad. Its amazing what some
people will do to avoid actually slowing down or stopping at this
intersection. Personally, I wish they were re-activated.

It's some guys dressed as Santa putting gift boxes over cameras in Arizona.

I cant believe the ammount of time taken to debate the value of those cameras. They are obviously effective at slowing traffic down..and I dont mind a bit that they are revenus generators. Dont do the crime if youre not willing to pay the time!

Time is a form of currency now? Because I have a lot of it available today, I wonder if I can leave it to someone in my will?

Why not sell all you have and blow it all, leaving no inheritance?

The singer of the song in the video did something illegal, or at least that's been alleged.

The santas were probably okay until they actually placed an object on the camera itself. If they just stood on the corner waving signs around that blocked the camera's view, they could probably argue that they didn't realize there was a camera there, or didn't realize they were blocking it, but once they put that box over the camera, any judge would take that as an intentional act. I'm sure there's some law, or ordinance or code or something that could be used to at least fine these guys for that.

There's all kinds of stunts with cameras in London. I think there are even groups that go around spray painting over camera lenses and that sort of thing. Definitely illegal, but I think these are like anarchist groups or something who don't care that it's illegal.
