One day after The White House released 100 pages of Benghazi emails, a report has surfaced alleging that Republicans released a set with altered text.

CBS News reported Thursday that leaked versions sent out by the GOP last Friday had visible differences than Wednesday's official batch. Two correspondences that were singled out in the report came from National Security Adviser Ben Rhodes and State Department Spokeswoman Victoria Nuland.

The GOP version of Rhodes' comment, according to CBS News: "We must make sure that the talking points reflect all agency equities, including those of the State Department, and we don't want to undermine the FBI investigation."

The White House email: "We need to resolve this in a way that respects all of the relevant equities, particularly the investigation."

The GOP version of Nuland's comment, according to CBS News: The penultimate point is a paragraph talking about all the previous warnings provided by the Agency (CIA) about al-Qaeda's presence and activities of al-Qaeda."

The White House email: "The penultimate point could be abused by members to beat the State Department for not paying attention to Agency warnings."

The news parallels a Tuesday CNN report which initially introduced the contradiction between what was revealed in a White House Benghazi email version, versus what was reported in media outlets. On Monday, Mother Jones noted that the Republicans' interim report included the correct version of the emails, signaling that more malice and less incompetence may have been at play with the alleged alterations.

On Sunday's "Reliable Sources," Howard Kurtz relayed a statement from the ABC News correspondent: "Clearly, I regret the email was quoted incorrectly and I regret that it's become a distraction from the story, which still entirely stands. I should have been clearer about the attribution. We updated our story immediately."

Guest David Shuster came down hard on Karl on Sunday, saying, "The story was wrong. The attribution was wrong. And he's still not characterizing the source as a Republican source, even though other news organizations are already doing that. So I just think the problems continue for ABC News in all of this."

Conservative columnist Jennifer Rubin argued that most of Karl's reporting was accurate, saying, "It was an important piece of reporting that was in front of the story. What he did is exactly right -- you've made one mistake within the context of good reporting, you apologize for that."

Following the leaks, the White House released the full emails on Wednesday. In a move that Talking Points Memo editor Josh Marshall characterized as "epic," CBS News' Major Garrett said that it was congressional Republicans who fed the misleading quotes to Karl.

Just an attempt by Mother Jones, TPM, Media Matters and others on the Left to blow up relatively minor differences in two quotes in an effort to distract from the substance of the release and to discredit Karl. They're pissed because he broke ranks and, coming from ABC, his article moved it from a Faux news story to the mainstream (which Hayes' earlier article couldn't since he's a solidly right-side reporter) and caused the release which shows all of the Obama Administration's fail.

You can criticize Karl for nitpick quotes and how he wrote his article all you want. But that doesn't change the facts of the release which, unfortunately for you, shows everything that he said that it did.

The talking points were revised extensively to water them down and remove references to al Qaeda which shows they knew form the start.

That Obama, Clinton, and Rice's video story was complete bullshit.

That Carney multiple times about them and the story more generally.

That the State Dept tried to hide prior warnings of a possible attack and their failure beyond that.

That Obama's al Qaeda's on the run and Islamic appeasement policy are complete failed bullshit and they wanted to downplay that during the election.

Even they had to come out and admit that they were deceptive and "idiots" for trying to hide this stuff for so long and making it a bigger problem than it would have been had they just come clean from the start.

That's because it was and still is news.

Because Karl had two minor wording differences in his 'quotes' doesn't change the facts of what is in the email and around the talking points. Everything that he claimed that was there is there.

Nobody said there were 12 revisions by the White House. What Karl reported was that there were 12 revisions. And that Ben Rhodes had interceded on the part of State. And that Nuland pushed back against including that they had received warnings in advance from the CIA. All true. The only errors on his part were to the wording of quotes.

The claim about the level of White House involvement came from Carney. He said that the White House and State made only ONE 'stylistic' wording change. Which the email release shows is false.

Somebody did lie at the White House in relation to a terrorist attack - Obama, Clinton, Rice, Carney and everyone else there, just as the email record shows. It's been a serious issue from the start. It was you Obamapologists who were saying it was nothing and stalling and trying to sweep it under the rug hoping that it would go away.

It has something to do with the president, but everything to do with the CIA, which sent Ambassador Stevens to Benghazi to meet up with his contacts among the former Libyan rebel movement to get them to help out in Syria.

The whole "talking points" bullshit was to push the CIA cover story into the media.

Well the Syrian involvement was a decision of the President. That may be true, either way its blatently obvious that a cover up took place and we were just flat out lied to over and over again about a youtube video and that did come out of the Presidents mouth and others. I dont think anyone is saying Obamas directly responsible for it, but he certainly went along with it.

Either way finding out what actually happened and why the cover up even if it was just to keep it quite for the election is important. At the hearing, outgoing acting IRS commissioner Steve Miller repeatedly objected to the use of the word “targeting.” He said the so-called “be on the lookout” (BOLO) list was an “inappropriate” organizational tool or “shortcut” that IRS staff used to find potential political cases. Miller claimed the tea party groups would have be subjected to extra scrutiny regardless of the BOLO list.

“If the targeting wasn’t targeting, if the targeting wasn’t based on philosophy, how come only conservatives got snagged?” Roskam confidently asked.

“They didn’t, sir,” Miller responded. “Organizations of all walks and all persuasions were pulled in. That’s shown by the fact that only 70 of the 300 organizations were tea party organizations, of the ones that were looked at by TIGTA [Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration].”

Roskam angrily cut off Miller and asserted his statement was at odds with the inspector general’s testimony, then ended his questioning.

But Treasury inspector general J. Russell George testified during the hearing that no evidence indicated the additional review of the 300 groups was politically or ideologically motivated. He blamed the incident on mismanagement.

The physical chain of custody on those emails was compromised as soon as they were briefed to Congress in closed door sessions - several days prior to their actual Public Release. People take notes, have recording devices, and sometimes even get printed briefings that they can walk out the door with at such events.

Congress saw those detailed emails in closed door sessions because they are in a position of trust and are not supposed to divulge what they hear or see.

GOP Congressional members leaked the information from those closed-sessions and then misquoted the contents of those emails with intent to do political harm to the Administration.

That prompted the White House to release the actual emails to correct the false GOP record in the press.

BTW: I can alter your email by misquoting and misreporting your original email through a major media outlet that gets instant top ranking in every search engine around the world. Fox News is a prime example of this tactic.

Except that's not what happened.

Yes, Karl should have been more clear that he'd did not have the actual emails and was working from a source using notes. But the only 'alterations' were two relatively minor differences versus direct quotes which didn't change the substance of what he'd reported.

That was not what prompted the White House to release the larger email thread. What that prompted them to do is to cherry pick one email of their own to leak to CNN which showed one of the differences (the email from Rhodes).

What prompted them to release the larger group is that reporters beat them up so badly over for playing games themselves and it being clear that Carney's earlier characterization of the changes made to the talking points and what they knew at that point in time was very obviously misleading.

They're literally fabricating lies about something that was stupid to begin with. Republican used to be a headache but now they're a fucking annoying whiny headache. I feel like I'm married to the Republican party they've turned into such bitches.

If you present false facts in congressional hearing there are legal actions that can taken against you.

In several hearings three republicans said they where quoting from emails. They were not, they were intentionally lying under oath.

This is all quite amusing. If the state department/wh had actually turned the emails over i/o of just letting them look at them for a limited amount of time this wouldn't have happened.

The Benghazi investigation has become the scandal itself. Republicans can't even carry out a witch hunt without violating the law or the public trust.

Then the press said enough of your bullshit and forced them to release all of them.
